USC Institute for Technology and Medical Systems Innovation (ITEMS) is a joint Keck-Viterbi initiative to bridge engineering and medicine to bring about fundamental advances in the general fields of bioengineering, electronic systems, and neuroscience. In collaboration with the Department of Ophthalmology, USC Keck School of Medicine, ITEMS is currently seeking exceptional candidates for the Assistant Professor of Research to join the dynamic team.

The candidate's job responsibilities and accountabilities surround the sustainability of extramurally funded research programs. A successful candidate will have experience in designing, submitting, executing, and managing his/her own proposed projects. This individual will also have a strong background in conducting research studies and possess the abilities to translate measurements and associated data to publish peer-reviewed manuscripts, develop grant applications and deliver technical presentations at meetings within and outside of the university.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred Education:
    • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience, or other relevant disciplines
  • Preferred Experience:
    • Strong background in computational neuroscience, experimental neuroscience, and retinal connectomics
    • Experience with artificial intelligence and machine learning methods for biomedical data analysis
    • Expertise in large-scale image processing, neural circuit reconstruction, and multimodal data integration
    • Experience with high-performance computing and analysis of large biological datasets
    • Proficiency in statistical modeling and quantitative analysis of neural systems
    • Experience developing computational pipelines and automated workflows for scientific research
    • Knowledge of retinal physiology, ophthalmic imaging, or visual neuroscience
    • Experience working in interdisciplinary research environments involving engineering, neuroscience, and ophthalmology
    • Track record of contributing to externally funded research projects and collaborative scientific initiatives

The annual base salary range for this position is $76,000-$125,000.
