Job Summary

Provides academic advisement to new and continuing students either in-person or virtually with high levels of accuracy and customer service. Advises assigned cohorts of students and applies comprehensive case management and outreach strategies for students in a particular field of interest. Works in coordination with FOI Academic Advising Analyst(s) and a student support CARE team. Provides academic advisement to cohort and non-cohort students regarding program and degree requirements, academic progress, university transfer, and graduation eligibility. Evaluates unofficial transcript for academic planning and course approvals and creates personalized academic plans. Implements strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to resolve more complex student services concerns requiring extensive knowledge of academic advising and student services regulations and policies. May evaluate program admissions eligibility. May coordinate office workflow and provide training to other staff members.

Essential Functions

30% Educational and Career Planning * Provide comprehensive academic and career planning to credential-seeking students with a high level of accuracy, professionalism, and customer service. * Advise students individually and in group settings through scheduled appointments, drop-in services, and virtual and inperson modalities. * Assist students with career exploration, program selection, and development of multi-semester academic plans aligned with transfer goals, degree completion, or career pathways. * Interpret college policies, procedures, catalog requirements, academic regulations, and transfer information to support informed student decision-making. * Maintain accurate, thorough, and timely advising notes and student records in accordance with institutional standards and FERPA guidelines.

30% Advanced Advising Functions & Caseload Management * Serve as the primary advising contact for an assigned student caseload; monitor enrollment, academic progress, retention indicators, and completion milestones. * Provide proactive outreach, enrollment nudges, and just-in-time advising interventions in coordination with Field of Interest (FOI) Advising Analysts and student success partners. * Analyze student data to identify risk factors and implement strategies that support persistence and academic success. * Resolve escalated or complex student situations requiring advanced problem solving, policy interpretation, and crossdepartment coordination. * Perform advanced student records functions including program plan changes, degree audits, graduation reviews, and course applicability and eligibility for financial aid consideration.

15% Field of Interest and Student Success Collaboration * Collaborate with faculty, Enrollment Services, Financial Aid, Career Services, Student Success, and other campus partners to support holistic student success. * Identify barriers to student success and connect students with appropriate campus and community resources. * Participate in cross-functional teams, committees, and retention initiatives. * Participate in Field Of Interest programming and Student Success events.

15% Training & Operational Support * Support onboarding, training, and mentoring of new advising and enrollment services staff. * Assist with advising service operations including scheduling workflows, service coverage coordination, and daily operations to ensure continuous student access. * Contribute to the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of advising procedures, workflows, and service delivery models. * Participate in departmental planning, project implementation, and operational initiatives supporting advising effectiveness.

10% - Data Monitoring, Reporting & Compliance * Utilize student information systems and advising technologies to track student engagement and outcomes. * Analyze caseload trends and report data supporting retention and completion initiatives. * Ensure compliance with institutional policies, academic regulations, and applicable state and federal requirements. * Support assessment and continuous improvement efforts related to advising effectiveness.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two years of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs.

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications

1. One (1) or more year(s) full-time equivalent experience providing academic advisement in a community college or university setting.

2. Experience tracking, monitoring, and reporting enrollment, retention, persistence, and completion data for student populations or cohorts.

3. Experience utilizing student information systems to support advising, enrollment, retention, or other student services functions.

4. Experience coordinating and facilitating group advising presentations, workshops, trainings, and orientations.

5. Experience leading, coordinating, or supporting student success, retention, or operational initiatives in a higher education setting.

6. One year of relevant full-time MCCCD experience during the previous two years.

**** Experience within other community college systems or higher education institutions is valued and may be considered in addition to MCCCD experience. External candidates are encouraged to apply.
