We are currently looking for an enthusiastic, scientifically curiousResearch Technicianto work in the lab ofDr. Sean Morrison at the Children's Medical Center Research Institute (CRI) at UT Southwestern in Dallas, Texas. The Morrison lab's goal is to better understand the mechanisms that regulate stem cell function and how cancer cells hijack these mechanisms to enable tumor formation. A better understanding of these mechanisms offers the potential for new regenerative medicine and cancer therapies. For more information about the Morrison lab, please visit The ideal candidate is an organized, proactive professional who will support one or more postdoctoral fellows with their research projects by performing genotyping of the lab's mouse colony, general mouse work, and data analysis. This would be an excellent role for a recent college graduate who desires to gain additional years of hands-on research experience before pursuing graduate school or medical school. Essential Duties: Genotyping the lab's mouse colony by performing PCR, gel electrophoresis, and other techniques. Mouse work. Stocking and ordering lab supplies. Assisting postdocs with their projects. General lab upkeep such as dishwashing, autoclaving, and keeping the lab clean. Data analysis. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Education A bachelor's degree in biology or a closely related discipline is required. Experience Previous hands-on laboratory experience is required. Significant laboratory experience obtained during undergraduate studies is acceptable and will be considered. Previous hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques (PCR, gel electrophoresis, etc.) is required. Previous hands-on experience with handling live mice would be a plus. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong initiative, self-motivation, and capacity for creative problem solving. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills, prioritization skills, and time management skills. Meticulous attention to detail with emphasis on keeping records of experiments and results. Proficient computer skills (PC and/or Mac, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.). Comfortable handling live mice. Ability to work well both independently and as a member of a team. Ability to follow instructions with an eagerness to learn, grow professionally, and be mentored. Ability to interact positively with all levels of staff. Ability to work efficiently and be adaptable to changing priorities. Physical Requirements Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers, for example using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about workspace. The position requires mobility, including the ability to move materials weighing up to several pounds (such as a laptop computer or tablet). HHMI considers a candidate's education, previous experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity when making job offers. Typically, a new hire for this position in this location is compensated between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary range.
