Primary function of a General Superintendent- Electrical

Responsible for coordinating electrical field activities and resources for jobs as applicable. Must work well with Superintendents, Project Managers, and Operations Manager to ensure Division activities are planned, organized, implemented and reviewed to accomplish Company and Division objectives and to maximize Division performance. This individual would have an extensive background in hard bid or design-build self-perform water treatment plant (WTP) & wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) electrical construction.

Typical Duties include but are not limited to:

Safety and Risk Management

  • SAFETY FIRST!!! Ensure all operations are carried out in a safe manner in accordance to Crowder, client, and OSHA policies.
  • Ensure that all unusual operational risks are brought to the attention of the Operations Manager, Division Manager, and Safety Personnel during operation planning stages.
  • Examine and inspect work progress, equipment and construction sites to verify safety and ensure that specifications are met when necessary.
  • Immediately address any safety issue observed or brought to your attention by anyone.
  • Make construction methods and practice recommendations to Superintendents and Project Manager to be implemented by them.
  • Set example by reviewing and signing all Pre-Task Planning Sheets on site.

Division and Company Operations

  • Proactively identify and hire Superintendents and Foremen.
  • Provide PROACTIVE leadership to Superintendents and Foreman.
  • Develop and foster a spirit of trust and cooperation among Superintendents and Project Managers to enhance their working relationship and further the best interest of the Company, division, and their employees.
  • Attend Division reviews and relay information that relates to the Division and the Company.
  • Ensure that Corporate and Division policies and procedures with respect to all field staff are adhered to.
  • Work with Operations Manager and Crowder YOUniversity:
  • Maintain current supervisory skills inventory.
  • Develop training programs to enhance supervisory skills.
  • Identify and manage On the Job Training opportunities and develop future field supervisors.
  • Mentoring and developing of Field Electrical Supervision.
  • Effectively manage labor and equipment budgets utilizing weekly reports in order to proactively manage crew size, labor rates, and perdiem.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews of Superintendents, Foremen, and Field Engineers. Make recommendations for future development/growth opportunities and salary changes.
  • Act as a resource to Project Managers and Superintendents regarding Project Planning and Troubleshooting:
  • Current Operating Procedures Company wide as well as Division wide.
  • Personal involvement in particularly difficult or risky job situations.
  • Review and approval of safe and efficient construction operations. May make on the spot changes for safety purposes.
  • Spend quality time, up front, studying plans and specs on assigned projects, particularly looking at Value Engineering, forms, excavation, high risk, high impact areas that could have significant effect on the bottom line of the project.
  • Coordinate work in order to avoid ineffective electrical manpower peaks.
  • Be a resource to Superintendents, Project Managers, Estimating Manager, and Operations Manager. Utilize knowledge to review constructability, means and methods, and quality control to ensure projects are taking advantage of opportunities to increase profitability.

Division Business Plan

  • Participate in the setting and communication of Division goals and expectations.
  • Consistently build strong positive relationships with clients, inspectors, and subcontractors.

Personnel Focus

  • Make project organizational and staffing recommendations to the Operations Manager.
  • Work with the Operations Manager to make salary and bonus recommendations to Division Manager to be implemented by them.

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications, & Experience:

  • At least 5 years' experience as a superintendent building water/wastewater treatment plants for a heavy civil contractor
  • Four-Year degree in construction related field or equivalent construction experience
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge and skills of construction and apply hands-on supervision with effective leadership
  • Understand and follow all Company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Must have a valid driver's license and meet Crowder standards for Driver's
  • Must be a good communicator, motivator, and team player
  • Planning skills required

Physical Requirements

  • Good vision, with or without aid, including depth perception, clarity of greater than 20' and less than 3', and an entire field of vision/periphery.
  • Walk up or down slopes and/or ramps, long distances (more than one mile throughout the day), and on uneven surfaces.
  • Sit 2-4 hours daily and Stand 2-4 hours daily.
  • Maintain dexterity including good balance; ability to seize, hold, and manipulate an object in one's hand; capable of pinch type activities with fingers; and reach with extended arms in any direction.
  • Crouch, kneel, and bending for more than 5 minutes at any one time repeating the motion more than 2 times per minute.
  • Talk and hear (with or without aid).

Physical Environment Factors

  • Work outdoors 0-2 hours daily.
  • Operate office equipment including computers, copiers, scanner, etc. and a motor vehicle for company business.
  • Ability to travel including a normal commute to and from the jobsite/office during work hours and overnight stays while working away from home for extended periods of time.
  • Tolerate exposure to noise levels that may require the employee to shout in order to be heard, exposure to vibrating movements to the extremities or entire body, and work in open elevations more than 6' about the ground via scaffolding/suspension.
  • Work in OSHA confined spaces
