Purpose of Position

The Product Manager is an IT-embedded owner of product direction for their assigned business domain. This role ensures IT investment is aligned to business strategy, clearly articulated in terms of measurable value, and prioritized to maximize outcomes for the organization.

The Product Manager works directly and continuously with business stakeholders to understand domain priorities, define what IT should build and why, and own accountability for whether delivered work achieves its intended business outcome. While organizationally part of IT, this role operates as a trusted partner to the business, bringing product discipline, outcome orientation, and prioritization rigor to the relationship.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Product Vision and Strategy

  • Define and maintain a rolling product roadmap for the assigned domain, expressing priorities in terms of outcomes and value.
  • Translate business strategy into IT investment priorities and partner with business stakeholders to identify capability gaps and emerging opportunities.
  • Anticipate future business needs and proactively shape product direction, bringing a customer and end-user perspective to product decisions.

Value Articulation and Prioritization

  • Own the value proposition for every significant initiative entering the delivery pipeline, defining the expected business outcome, KPIs, and anticipated ROI.
  • Apply a consistent, data-driven prioritization framework to evaluate and rank work across the domain, enabling transparent trade-off decisions grounded in business value.
  • Participate in intake governance in partnership with the Delivery Office, ensuring work meets the definition of ready before entering the delivery pipeline.
  • Manage risks, dependencies, and trade-offs at the strategic level; identify issues early and facilitate resolution with the Delivery Lead.

Business Stakeholder Partnership

  • Serve as the primary IT point of contact for the assigned business domain, building trusted relationships with business leaders and subject matter experts.
  • Coach business stakeholders to articulate needs in terms of outcomes and value; manage expectations with transparency and data.
  • Champion IT investment within the business domain and facilitate change management for significant delivered capabilities.

Epic-Level Ownership and Handoff

  • Own the definition and value articulation of epics before handing off to the IT-side Product Lead; accountable for the quality and readiness of what is handed off.
  • Remain available for strategic clarification and business context during delivery without owning day-to-day backlog management.
  • Participate in sprint reviews and product demonstrations to validate that delivered work aligns with intended business outcomes.

Value Realization

  • Own measurement of whether delivered work achieved its intended outcome, tracking KPIs and validating ROI assumptions.
  • Partner with the Delivery Office on value realization reviews and use findings to improve future value articulation and prioritization decisions.

Community of Practice and Standards

  • Participate actively in the Product Manager community of practice, applying consistent intake standards, value proposition templates, and prioritization frameworks across all domain work.
Minimum Education
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent industry experience
Minimum Experience
  • 8+ years in product management, business relationship management, or a comparable strategic business-IT interface role.

  • Proven track record building and maintaining senior-level business stakeholder relationships.
