The mission of the USC Rossier School of Education is to prepare leaders to achieve educational equity through practice, research and policy. We work to improve learning opportunities and outcomes in urban settings and to address disparities that affect historically marginalized groups. We teach our students to value and respect the cultural context of the communities in which they work and to interrogate the systems of power that shape policies and practices. Through innovative thinking and research, we strive to solve the most in-tractable educational problems. The adjunct faculty member for EDUC 537X will prepare candidates with leadership skills to create a positive learning culture to promote the academic and success of all students. In this course, candidates will examine their own values and beliefs as they pertain to their own cultural awareness, knowledge, and competence. Candidates will learn how these beliefs and values set the tone for a culture of high expectations for all students, with a focus on students most underserved by current educational systems. In addition, the adjunct faculty will discuss strategies to build leadership strengths to promote a school culture that ensures the academic success of all students. The course focuses on leadership skills that create a school climate that welcomes, honors, and responds to a diverse community, and recognizes and utilizes the assets found in each community. Instruction will be provided in an online synchronous setting, for a period of fifteen (15) weeks, one night per week for two (2) hours (synchronous), using the USC Rossier Office for Professional Development online platform. In addition to teaching, the position is responsible for: present, describe and assign course assignments, maintain regular communication with students, complete numerical grade points for each assignment and assign a final grade for the course in D2L. The faculty member will make recommendations for improvement to the program administrator at term end. The position reports to the Program Administrator and faculty advisor for School Leadership Academy. This calendar for this class will be shared when developed for each term. Required Qualifications: This position requires a minimum of five (5) years of experience at a public school site as a district leader, acting principal and/or superintendent. This position also requires a Doctor of Education (Ed.D) or PhD. Candidates must have experience with teaching and learning, including staff supervision and evaluation, with extensive knowledge and experience in evaluating teaching data driven decision making, leadership, communication, and research-based pedagogy. Applicants must also hold a California Clear Administrative Credential. Applicants must also be skilled in using a Learning Management System and teaching online. Applicants will need access to their own computer with Internet, microphone, and camera for all online sessions. Experience in teaching online using Adobe Connect is a plus. The base salary range for this position is $7,457- $9,587 per course. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
