The Electrical Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving low- and medium-voltage electrical systems to ensure safe, reliable operation of facility assets. This role supports a wide range of equipment including motor control systems, variable frequency drives (VFDs), motors, and electrical distribution systems. The position requires applying advanced knowledge of electrical and control systems to diagnose complex issues, support operational reliability, and implement continuous improvements. All work must be performed in compliance with company safety policies and applicable electrical codes and standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Core Electrical Maintenance Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair low- and medium-voltage electrical systems and equipment Diagnose and resolve complex electrical and motor control issues Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on electrical systems Support installation and commissioning of electrical equipment Controls & Automation Troubleshoot and support PLC and Distributed Control Systems (DCS) Identify and implement improvements in control logic and system performance Maintain and troubleshoot process control devices, alarms, and shutdown systems Equipment & Systems Support Install, maintain, and troubleshoot: Motor starters, motors, and VFDs UPS and battery systems Motor-operated valves and grounding systems Substation and distribution equipment Implement and maintain condition monitoring systems to detect equipment issues Documentation & Continuous Improvement Read, interpret, and update electrical drawings (schematics, one-lines, three-lines) Review project documentation and provide technical feedback Support equipment acceptance testing and commissioning activities Identify and implement new technologies to improve reliability and performance Safety & Compliance Perform all work in accordance with company safety policies, procedures, and industry standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA 70E) Actively identify hazards and participate in risk mitigation efforts Required Education: Minimum of High school diploma or GED. Required Qualifications: Required experience is commensurate with the selected job level: Level C requires a minimum of 0 - 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent work experience. Level B requires a minimum of 2 - 4 years of relevant experience or equivalent work experience. Level A requires a minimum of 4+ years of relevant experience or equivalent work experience. Technical Qualifications: Strong knowledge of motor control systems and electrical equipment Experience working with AC voltages ranging from 120V to 138 kV Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and technical documentation Working knowledge of VFD systems (e.g., TMEIC, Siemens, ABB, Toshiba, Schneider/Square D) Knowledge of electrical testing methods and test equipment Understanding of electrical codes, standards, and safe work practices Skills & Abilities: Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively under pressure Ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong communication skills with ability to convey technical information clearly Basic computer and mathematical skills Willingness to work overtime, respond to call-outs, and travel up to 10% * Preferred Qualifications: * Associate degree in Electrical Technology or 5yrs experience working on low and medium voltage electrical equipment and/or related applications. * Electrical Journeyman license * Experience with electrical protection relays (e.g., GE Multilin, Schweitzer) * Experience with motor testing and diagnostics * Substation maintenance and operations experience * Certifications or factory training in: * Variable frequency drives * Motor testing * Protective relay testing * UPS systems * Electrical preventive maintenance practices Working Conditions and Requirements: * Work in industrial and outdoor environments, including exposure to extreme weather conditions * Climb and work at heights * Lift and carry up to 50 lbs; perform physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods * Operate in areas with moving mechanical equipment and energized systems * Use required personal protective equipment (PPE), including arc-flash and respiratory protection * Travel over uneven terrain and ride in vehicles on rough roads | |
