- Design complex systems utilizing CAD/Solid Modeling software with minimal supervision.
- Perform (and/or provide direction for) the following during product development projects/programs:
- Work with engineers and marketing staff in dynamic conceptual stages of projects. Generate multiple models for concept and prototype evaluation.
- Generate component files for various prototyping techniques, procure prototype parts and evaluate components and design for meeting requirements.
- Interface with suppliers as necessary.
- Perform Tolerance Stack-Up Analysis, apply GD&T.
- Create and maintain product Bill of Materials (BOM).
- Create fabrication drawings, weld layout based on applicable manufacturing techniques (robotic/manual), 3D welds.
- Creating flat profile for sheet metal parts.
- Apply hardware, standards & practices.
- Design snap joints.
- Utilize knowledge of equipment capabilities, application techniques and design limitations during the design process with minimal input.
- Take responsibility for finalizing design CAD models in a manner (accuracy, completeness, and timeliness) that supports the project timeline.
- Utilizing CAD design techniques, skills, design rules and specifications, prepare design concepts, assemblies, and detailed drawings, perform mathematical calculations, research material options and manufacturing techniques, and prepare completed models in support of product design.
- Regular exchange with production, addressing to design/drawing issues related to production line.
- Initiate and generate ECR's/ECN's and the compilation of supporting documentation as required.
- Maintain and develop a high level of knowledge of CAD tools, CAD techniques, and prototype methods; provide direction and training as appropriate.
- Ensure that all product development processes and activities conform to Invacare's quality system.
- In collaboration with QA/RA and in a pro-active manner, ensure that product development processes and activities meet appropriate domestic and international safety and quality standards.
- Complete all required training applicable to assigned position.
- Exhibit positivity, flexibility, creativity, and a willingness to take on new responsibilities as requested or required.
- Two (2) years of college or an Associates Degree in Drafting, Engineering, or Engineering Technologies preferred.
- More than eight (8) years of designer experience including design and modeling of complex parts and assemblies.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience working with Solid Modeling (SolidWorks preferred).
- Basic knowledge to perform simple structural analysis (FEA).
- High level of proficiency utilizing PC design tools to generate solid models.
- A good understanding of the Materials (metals & non-metals), applicable standards, industry practices.
- Working knowledge of PLM System such as SolidWorks, Oracle, SAP System.
- Demonstrated ability to interface with other CAD systems for electronic file sharing and prototype procurement.
- Detailed knowledge of various prototype and production manufacturing techniques for metal and plastic components. Experience utilizing various manufacturing techniques to design for assembly.
- Experience working with an ECR/ECN process and manufacturing BOM systems.
- Must have demonstrated ability to work from concept to production. Must be able to work from engineer's and industrial designer sketches.
- Ability to supervise and coach designers and other team members.
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills. Self-directed regarding project goals.
- Demonstrated teamwork skills.
- Must have effective communication skills.
