| Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Department of Athletics exists to provide educational and athletic opportunities to young men and women, to provide an environment for student-athletes to learn, advance and excel both academically and athletically, and to serve the interests of the University by complimenting and enhancing its diversity and quality of life. Through its athletic programs, the University seeks to unite alumni, faculty, administration and students in a common shared experience. The governing unit within the Department of Athletics is the Director's Office, which is the administrative office and clearinghouse for the entire Department of Athletics, and promotes the department's guiding principle of educating and inspiring through athletics. This unit provides support to administrators, coaches, staff members and student-athletes in order to provide and promote a premier intercollegiate athletic program for The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Department of Athletics is a highly visible public relations arm of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with statewide, national and international recognition. |
| Position Summary |
Assist the Head Coach with all aspects of the Men's and Women's Track & Field program, including but not limited to practice and competition management, student-athlete skill development, recruiting, planning and implementing daily training sessions and competitions, organizing and administering clinics, and handling administrative tasks essential to program operations. The role requires integrity, leadership, and a strong commitment to motivating, teaching, counseling, and recruiting academically qualified student-athletes. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Minimum of a bachelor's degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with at least 1 year of experience in relevant independent instructional or educational activities; specific minimum experience is at the discretion of the Director of Athletics. |
| Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
2 -5 years of successful intercollegiate experience, preferably, at the Division I level, and knowledge of
NCAA Rules & Regulations;
USATF &
IAAF Rules pertinent to hosting a compliant track meet preferred. Strong interpersonal communications skills; computer skills; demonstrated integrity, leadership, and a thorough knowledge of the sport are required. Ability to become
CPR and first aid certified. |
| Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Prefer at least 1 year in relevant independent or educational activities. |
| Special Physical/Mental Requirements |
Must be able to lift/move 25 lbs or greater. May be required to navigate stairs. Must be able to manage a fast-paced, high volume work environment. Attention to detail essential. Must be able to work long hours, including nights and weekends as required. Travel required. |
| Campus Security Authority Responsibilities |
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities. |
