Description

Position Title: Industrial Electrician

Reporting to: Director of Project Development

Central Power Systems & Services is a privately held company with deep roots going back to 1954.

Our Mission Statement is forging long-lasting partnerships by providing first-class customer support. We live that statement every single day. We are looking for a Industrial Electrician to help support that mission.

JOB SUMMARY

This position serves as the in-house electrical authority across 1.2 million square feet of manufacturing, fabrication, and warehouse operations. The Industrial Electrician will own the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and strategic planning of all electrical systems supporting CPS&S production. This is not a task-chasing role. You will replace outsourced contractor dependency with embedded expertise, institutional knowledge, and the judgment to prioritize work that drives uptime, safety, and long-term reliability across an increasingly automated and networked manufacturing environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Electrical Systems Ownership

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair industrial electrical systems across all facilities including 480V three-phase distribution, motor control centers, transformers, disconnects, and branch circuits
  • Own and maintain panel schedules, one-line diagrams, and as-built documentation for all electrical infrastructure
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on electrical systems, including thermal imaging, insulation resistance testing, and connection torque verification
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical faults on production equipment including CNC machines, VFDs, servo drives, PLCs, and automated material handling systems
  • Ensure all work meets NEC, OSHA, and local code requirements; serve as the internal authority on electrical compliance

Strategic Planning & Prioritization

  • Evaluate and prioritize electrical work requests based on production impact, safety risk, and strategic value
  • Develop and maintain a proactive electrical maintenance schedule aligned with production calendars and planned downtime windows
  • Assess facility electrical capacity and plan for future load growth driven by new equipment, automation, and technology deployments
  • Provide cost-benefit input on repair-vs-replace decisions and capital project scoping
  • Identify recurring electrical failure modes and drive permanent corrective actions rather than repeated break-fix

Equipment Integration & Modernization Support

  • Support installation and commissioning of new production equipment, including power drops, control wiring, and communication networks
  • Collaborate with the Operations & Technology team on IoT sensor deployments, network infrastructure expansion, and control system integration
  • Provide electrical expertise during equipment evaluations, vendor discussions, and capital planning
  • Support the transition from reactive to condition-based maintenance practices for critical electrical assets

Safety, Compliance & Documentation

  • Maintain strict adherence to LOTO procedures, arc flash safety protocols, and NFPA 70E requirements
  • Keep electrical documentation current including panel schedules, circuit identification, equipment connection diagrams, and maintenance records
  • Train and mentor maintenance staff and operators on basic electrical safety and first-line troubleshooting where appropriate
  • Coordinate with outside contractors and inspectors when specialized work or permitting is required

Benefits

  • Competitive Pay
  • Medical, Dental, Vision & Life Insurance
  • 401k with company match
  • Paid Time Off
  • Training & Professional Development
  • Positive and productive work environment

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Journeyman Electrician license (or equivalent state certification); Master Electrician preferred
  • Minimum 7 years of industrial/manufacturing electrical experience
  • Deep working knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, and OSHA electrical safety standards
  • Proven experience with three-phase power distribution (208V/480V/600V), motor controls, VFDs, PLCs, and industrial control panels
  • Ability to read, interpret, and red-line electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and control drawings
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work based on operational impact, not just urgency
  • Strong troubleshooting methodology: systematic root cause analysis, not shotgun parts replacement
  • Must live in or be willing to relocate to the Kansas City, Missouri area

Preferred

  • Experience in discrete manufacturing environments (fabrication, assembly, paint systems)
  • Familiarity with Salvagnini, Trumpf, Amada, or similar CNC sheet metal equipment
  • Experience with industrial networking (EtherCAT, Ethernet/IP, Profinet) and PLC communications
  • Exposure to building automation systems (HVAC controls, lighting controls, energy management)
  • OSHA 30 certification or equivalent safety training
  • Experience scoping electrical work for capital projects and providing input to project budgets
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
