We are seeking an experienced Interim Health Information Management (HIM) Technician to conduct comprehensive assessments of Health Information Management departments and medical record processes within healthcare organizations. This position is responsible for evaluating workflows, identifying opportunities for operational improvement, ensuring regulatory compliance, assessing technology utilization, and recommending best practices to optimize records management and support industry standards.

The Interim HIM Technician will work closely with leadership and staff to analyze current processes, identify gaps, provide actionable recommendations, and assist with implementing solutions that improve efficiency, accuracy, compliance, and overall department performance.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Conduct assessments of HIM department operations, workflows, and medical record practices.
  • Evaluate compliance with federal, state, and organizational regulations and standards.
  • Review record completion, chart management, document retention, release of information, and other HIM processes.
  • Identify workflow inefficiencies and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Assess electronic health record (EHR) utilization and technology effectiveness.
  • Develop findings, recommendations, and action plans to address identified gaps.
  • Provide education and support to staff regarding HIM best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist facilities with implementing process improvements and monitoring outcomes.
  • Prepare detailed reports and communicate assessment results to leadership teams.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in health information management or a HIM's certification.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in medical records, health information management, healthcare administration, or long-term care.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and electronic medical record systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Preferred


  • RHIT, RHIA, or Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS) credential.
  • Experience in health care settings.
  • Experience with EHR systems.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, CMS regulations, and medical record compliance requirements.


Special Position Requirements:


  • Must maintain all required professional licenses and certifications if applicable.
  • Provide proof of current and in good standing licensure if applicable.
  • Must maintain active driver's license and provide proof of auto insurance upon request.
  • Travel throughout MN may be required.


Physical Demands:


  • Ability to endure prolonged walking, sitting, standing, use of pulling bending and stooping movements.
  • Ability to talk and hear.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to endure the physical demands of traveling. (i.e. air travel and auto travel).

  • Must be able to demonstrate ability to work well with others.
