Division Intercollegiate Athletics The Division of Intercollegiate Athletics (DIA) invites applications for Assistant Director, Academic Services supports Academic Services. In addition, the Assistant Director, Academic Services will play a critical role in supporting the broader strategic priorities of the DIA, and ultimately this position will help foster a life-changing experience for student-athletes. Since 1892, DIA has operated on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to support its intercollegiate athletic programs. Today, DIA supports 21 intercollegiate varsity sports which compete as a part of the Big Ten Conference and the National Collegiate Athletic Association. DIA provides the resources for over 500 student-athletes to participate at the highest levels of their respective sports. This extensive support ecosystem includes over 35 departments employing over 300 dedicated staff members including 80 plus varsity coaches working collaboratively to provide individualized championship-caliber opportunities to our student-athletes, in the classroom, in the competitive arena, and in personal and professional development, to enhance their growth and life preparation. Within 3 months, you will:
--Establish strong working relationships with assigned sport programs, coaches, and student-athletes, building credibility and trust early.
--Gain a comprehensive understanding of NCAA, Big Ten, and institutional academic policies, including eligibility, PTD, and admissions processes.
--Conduct initial academic assessments and intake evaluations for student-athletes to identify learning needs, risk factors, and support strategies.
--Integrate into the academic services team by aligning with existing systems, workflows, and reporting structures.
--Provide immediate, proactive academic support, including study strategies, time management guidance, and resource connection.
--Begin monitoring academic progress and eligibility benchmarks, ensuring compliance and early intervention where needed.
Within 6 months, you will:
--Fully manage a caseload of student-athletes, delivering consistent academic counseling, progress tracking, and individualized support plans.
--Collaborate with coaches and staff to align academic strategies with team schedules, travel demands, and competition calendars.
--Support enrollment planning and course selection, ensuring progress toward degree and long-term academic positioning.
--Utilize data and reporting tools to track academic performance trends, identifying opportunities for academic improvement and retention.
--Begin contributing to programmatic initiatives (e.g., study hall structures, learning support interventions, workshops).
--Strengthen cross-campus collaboration with faculty, academic advisors, and support units to enhance the student-athlete experience.
By the end of the first year, you will:
--Demonstrate measurable impact on student-athlete academic performance, eligibility, and retention outcomes.
--Serve as a trusted advisor to coaches and student-athletes, influencing decision-making related to academics, scheduling, and development.
--Contribute to departmental strategy and innovation, including improvements to academic support models and programming.
--Play a role in recruiting and onboarding prospective student-athletes, supporting the academic component of the recruitment process.
--Identify and implement targeted interventions for at-risk populations, leveraging data and best practices.
--Engage in broader departmental initiatives aligned with modern college athletics trends (transfer movement, roster management, NIL education).

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 8/3/2026. Salary range is $50,000 - $56,000 commensurate with experience. This position is not eligible for any type of sponsorship for work authorization.
