This position is funded for 12 months; continuation past 12 months will be based on university need, performance, and/or availability of funding.POSITION SPECIFICS The Genome Sciences Core at Penn State University College of Medicine in Hershey, PA is seeking a highly skilled and collaborative Manager to lead operations of a state-of-the-art genomics facility. This role is responsible for overseeing daily core functions, supporting cutting-edge genomics and multi-omics research, and partnering with investigators to deliver high-quality, reliable data. The Manager will provide technical and operational leadership, ensure service excellence, and contribute to the strategic growth and sustainability of the core. Primary Responsibilities: Oversee daily operations of the Genome Sciences Core, including workflow management, quality control, and service delivery timelines. Lead and support genomics services such as next-generation sequencing (NGS), single-cell sequencing, and other emerging multi-omic technologies Collaborate with investigators on experimental design, project planning, and execution to ensure high-quality outcomes Supervise, train, and mentor core staff; foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment Manage budgets, pricing, and cost-recovery models to ensure financial sustainability Evaluate, implement, and optimize new technologies and platforms to maintain a cutting-edge facility Support grant applications and institutional research initiatives by providing technical expertise and resource planning Ensure compliance with institutional policies, data management standards, and best practices Qualifications: Significant hands-on experience with genomics technologies (e.g., NGS platforms, library preparation, sequencing workflows) Demonstrated experience in laboratory or core facility operations Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Preferred Qualifications: PhD degree in a relevant field Experience managing a core facility, shared resource lab, or technical team Familiarity with single-cell, spatial genomics, or other advanced multi-omic approaches Experience with budgeting, service pricing, and cost-recovery models Knowledge of data analysis workflows or collaboration with bioinformatics teams Additional Information: MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS If filled as Research Project Manager - Intermediate Professional, this position requires: Master's Degree 1+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None If filled as Research Project Manager - Advanced Professional, this position requires: Master's Degree 3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: NoneBACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies.
