Responsibilities

General Duties:

  • Determine appropriate approach, follow accepted procedures, develop new procedures at both laboratory and plant scale.
  • Perform routine and non-routine lab assignments of low to moderate complexity and variety.
  • Communicate technical findings in an effective manner across varying audiences.
  • Contribute to the specification, purchase, installation and troubleshooting of new equipment.

Department Specific Duties:

  • Work on assigned projects that impact Parker Safety, Cost Savings, and Lean goals.
  • Participate on teams that reduce waste in manufacturing in the form of time, material, energy. Active participation in Kaizen events and High Performance Teams is required.
  • Work on assigned projects that remedy single source risks within the product line.
  • With guidance, conduct experiments and develop manufacturing procedures to scale up new products.
  • With guidance, conduct experiments and develop solutions to bring efficiencies to commercialized products/processes.
  • With guidance, utilize statistics and problem-solving methodology to identify trends, make improvements and technical decisions both at the laboratory and the plant level.


  • Work safely. Develop the knowledge of chemical hazard and equipment hazards. Contribute to safety improvements in both the laboratory and manufacturing plant.

Job Dimensions:

  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of small scale laboratory equipment. Ability to balance trade offs to achieve the maximum outcome. Understanding of performance test methods, application principles and techniques. Introductory knowledge of the product line within the region. Knowledge of laboratory scale safety risks due to equipment and/or chemicals. Ability to understand cost models. Ability to follow Parker LORD standard work. Ability to use our SAP ERP software.
  • Impact: Technical lead on low complexity projects. Failure to achieve goals may cause delays in project schedules and may result in allocation of additional resources. Strive for zero defects. Developing ability to identify root cause and corrective actions for undesirable outcomes in product and process experiments.
  • Problem Solving: Begin to solve technical problems. Conduct investigations, data analysis and troubleshooting. Beginning knowledge and utilization of engineering tools, methods, processes (Benchtop experiments, DeltaV/PI, FMEA, Statistical software etc.) Develop solutions under direction.

Qualifications

Required Competencies:

  • Requires manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to safely and accurately perform laboratory tasks.
  • Possess strong safety awareness, adherence to company quality standards, and ethics policies.
  • Possess strong attention to detail observationally and as demonstrated in written reports.
  • Possess adequate visual acuity to read and understand chemical container labels and to safely work in a chemical laboratory with hazardous chemicals.
  • Possess good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to apply basic statistics and interpret and communicate results.
  • Ability to utilize computerized equipment and computer software packages including but not limited to Microsoft Excel, Word, and SAP.


  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.


Required Education and Work Experience:

  • BS Degree Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Related Discipline
  • 0-1+ year(s) of directly relevant experience in chemical manufacturing in a laboratory or plant setting
