Description We are seeking a Senior Power System Engineer - Renewable & Data Center Integration with extensive experience supporting utility-scale generation and large-load interconnections across the ERCOT region. The successful candidate will possess a strong background working directly with Investor-Owned Utilities, Transmission Service Providers, Independent Power Producers, renewable developers, and EPC organizations throughout the planning, design, interconnection, and execution phases of major infrastructure projects. This role will lead transmission planning studies, interconnection assessments, dynamic and transient stability analyses, and technical due diligence efforts supporting renewable generation, energy storage, and hyperscale data center developments. Candidates should have a thorough understanding of ERCOT protocols, utility planning practices, transmission development processes, and EPC execution considerations, along with the ability to engage effectively with utility stakeholders and senior client leadership. Key Responsibilities
Serve as a technical lead and subject matter expert for large-load and generation interconnection studies across ERCOT and other North American transmission systems. Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams performing transmission planning, interconnection, and grid integration studies for hyperscale data centers, renewable generation facilities, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and hybrid energy projects. Develop technical study methodologies, establish modeling assumptions, review analytical results, and provide quality assurance for complex power system studies. Interpret and apply NERC, FERC, ERCOT, ISO/RTO, and Transmission Service Provider (TSP) requirements related to generation and large-load interconnections. Lead the development, validation, and troubleshooting of steady-state, dynamic, and electromagnetic transient (EMT) models using ETAP, PSSE, PSCAD, and related industry tools. Provide technical leadership for modeling and integration of:
Large electronic loads and hyperscale data center facilities Utility-scale solar, wind, and battery energy storage resources Hybrid generation and storage systems Power Plant Controllers (PPCs) and Master Plant Controllers (MPCs)
Lead technical evaluations supporting EPC design, Owner's Engineer services, and utility interconnection activities for:
Utility-scale renewable energy projects Large data center developments High-voltage substations and collector systems Grid modernization and microgrid applications
Provide technical oversight for microgrid planning, design, control system integration, and resiliency assessments at both medium- and high-voltage levels. Lead and support RTDS/RSCAD Control Hardware-in-the-Loop (CHIL) testing, model validation, and controller performance verification activities. Serve as the primary technical interface with Investor-Owned Utilities (IOUs), Transmission Service Providers (TSPs), ISO/RTO organizations, developers, EPC firms, OEMs, and regulatory stakeholders. Present technical findings, defend study methodologies, and communicate project risks and recommendations to utility clients, project developers, and executive leadership teams. Perform and oversee advanced power system analyses including:
Power flow and voltage stability studies Short-circuit and fault-duty analysis Protection coordination and relay settings review Arc-flash assessments Reactive power planning and voltage control analysis Harmonic and power quality studies System loss and operational performance assessments
Lead electromagnetic transient (EMT) studies in PSCAD, including:
Transient overvoltage (TOV) analysis Transient recovery voltage (TRV) analysis Insulation coordination studies Sub-synchronous resonance (SSR) and sub-synchronous oscillation (SSO) assessments Inverter-based resource (IBR) interaction and control stability evaluations
Support project development activities through interconnection strategy development, technical due diligence, risk assessments, and identification of grid-related project constraints. Mentor and develop junior engineers, provide technical guidance across project teams, and contribute to the growth of organizational technical capabilities. Support proposal development, technical pursuits, client relationship management, and strategic business growth initiatives within the utility, renewable energy, and data center sectors.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required; Master's degree with a Power Systems specialization preferred. 10- 15 years of progressive experience in power systems engineering, transmission planning, interconnection studies, grid integration, and utility infrastructure projects, with demonstrated technical leadership responsibilities. Demonstrated experience serving as a technical lead, lead engineer, owner's engineer, or subject matter expert on large-scale transmission, renewable integration, or data center interconnection projects Extensive experience leading and reviewing complex power system studies for utility-scale renewable generation, energy storage systems, large industrial loads, and hyperscale data center developments. Demonstrated expertise in:
PSSE steady-state and dynamic modeling and analysis PSCAD electromagnetic transient (EMT) modeling and simulation ETAP power system analysis, protection coordination, and arc flash studies Transmission planning and interconnection assessments
Proven experience leading:
Large load interconnection studies, including hyperscale data centers and other high-density electronic loads Generation interconnection studies for solar, wind, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and hybrid renewable projects Dynamic and EMT studies supporting inverter-based resource integration and grid reliability assessments
Strong working knowledge of ERCOT transmission planning processes, interconnection requirements, market protocols, and operational practices. Experience supporting other ISO/RTO regions is considered a plus. Demonstrated experience working directly with Investor-Owned Utilities (IOUs), Transmission Service Providers (TSPs), Independent Power Producers (IPPs), renewable energy developers, and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) firms throughout project development and execution. Experience developing, validating, and troubleshooting dynamic PSSE and PSCAD models for inverter-based resources, large electronic loads, and advanced control systems. Strong understanding of NERC, FERC, ERCOT, ISO/RTO, and utility interconnection requirements, including compliance, planning, operational, and reliability considerations. Experience integrating, testing, and coordinating Power Plant Controllers (PPCs), Master Plant Controllers (MPCs), and inverter control strategies to satisfy utility and ISO/RTO performance requirements. Experience leading or supporting RTDS/RSCAD Control Hardware-in-the-Loop (CHIL) testing, controller validation, and performance verification activities. Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams, mentor junior engineers, review engineering work products, and provide technical oversight across multidisciplinary projects. Proven ability to present technical findings, defend study assumptions and methodologies, and communicate complex engineering concepts to utility clients, EPC partners, project developers, and executive stakeholders. Experience supporting proposal development, technical pursuits, client engagement activities, and strategic business growth initiatives is highly desirable. Professional Engineer (PE) license required or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity within six months of hire. Active participation in industry organizations, technical committees, standards development activities, or professional working groups (IEEE, PES, CIGRE, NERC, ERCOT working groups, etc.) is considered a strong plus.
