Postdoctoral Associate - radiation-induced acute epithelial injury and fibrosis

The Lee Lab (Department of Radiation Oncology, Duke University) is hiring a full-time Postdoctoral Associate to study normal tissue injury from ionizing radiation. Supported by NIH funding, the position focuses on acute and delayed radiation-induced intestinal injury, with emphasis on regenerative reprogramming mechanisms and stromal-epithelial interactions. The role employs a multi-modal research approach spanning genetically engineered mouse models, histopathology, mouse and human organoids, CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing, single-cell sequencing, and spatial transcriptomics.

Qualifications: A PhD, MD, or MD/PhD in a biomedical sciences-related field is required, along with a peer-reviewed publication record. Experience in RNA sequencing data analysis is preferred. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

* Design and execute in vivo and in vitro experiments to investigate molecular and cellular mechanisms of acute epithelial injury and delayed fibrosis following high-dose radiation exposure

* Maintain the lab mouse colony, including breeding crosses, tail clip biopsies, weaning pups, and animal identification (tattooing, ear tagging)

* Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data; prepare clear and thorough reports

* Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals

* Support grant and contract writing efforts

* Assist in managing IACUC, IRB, and IBC protocols and maintain up-to-date lab safety SOPs

* Flexibility to work weekends or alternative shifts as needed
