At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

As a member of the Blue Origin family of companies, Honeybee Robotics has been at the forefront of robotics for over 40 years. Our Colorado location specializes in creating advanced motion control solutions for NASA, defense, and commercial programs. Our work has played a critical role in thousands of projects, spanning from conceptual design studies to flight missions, including NASA's Artemis I Mission and the Roman Space Telescope. We are seeking technically brilliant individuals who are passionate about their work, thrive in collaborative environments, and have a laser focus on the details that drive excellence.

This role is part of the Motion Control Business Unit, Honeybee Robotics which designs, manufactures, and tests high-performance, reliable motion control components and integrated solutions that power the most demanding aerospace and space exploration missions. From actuators and gearboxes to motors and precision motion control systems, our products operate in the harshest environments, enabling critical missions from Earth to deep space. Our Test Department plays a critical role in ensuring every component and system meets the rigorous standards required for mission success.

As part of a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers in our Test Department, you will apply standard engineering knowledge and methods to design, plan, model, execute, and interpret tests for aerospace systems and components. With a focus on developing Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE), automated test equipment (ATE), and the associated test software, you will architect, build, and validate the integrated ground systems used to electrically stimulate, power, command, and measure Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) components and mechanisms such as Solar Array Drive Assemblies (SADAs) in support of the Blue Ring and TeraWave programs. This role leans on test software development - primarily in LabVIEW - and is a combination of EGSE/ATE and test software development, operations planning and documentation, hands-on running tests, and troubleshooting/data analysis.

Special Mentions

  • Relocation provided
  • Travel expected up to 10% of the time
  • Interviews will include a technical assessment (programming/automation focus)

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and validate Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) and automated test equipment (ATE), hardware and software, used to electrically interface with power, command, stimulate, and measure GNC components and Solar Array Drive Assemblies (SADAs) in support of the Blue Ring and TeraWave programs
  • Develop test software and automated test sequences (primarily LabVIEW; Python as applicable) to command EGSE/ATE, orchestrate test execution, and collect, analyze, and report measurement data with real-time monitoring
  • Develop supporting EGSE hardware including harnessing, junction/breakout boxes, processing panels, power distribution, and continuity/isolation/hi-pot test equipment
  • Define EGSE/ATE electrical interfaces and develop interface control documents (ICDs) in coordination with design, GNC, and systems engineering

  • Conduct functional, performance, life, and environmental testing (vibration, thermal vacuum, shock, EMI/EMC) on flight and qualification hardware
  • Integrate instrumentation, data acquisition, and control systems into EGSE/ATE racks; develop calibration and validation routines for test equipment with electrical and digital test interfaces
  • Collect, reduce, and analyze test data; identify anomalies, root causes, and corrective actions; and communicate findings clearly to engineering and project teams
  • Support troubleshooting and fault isolation of EGSE/ATE and articles under test, using electrical schematics and wiring diagrams to resolve technical issues during test campaigns
  • Operate and maintain test laboratory equipment, including motor controllers, torque sensors, encoders, load cells, and multi-channel data acquisition systems
