Title: Vice President for Development and Outreach Reports to: President and Chief Executive Officer This is a rare opportunity for a forward-thinking leader to shape the next chapter of a respected and high-performing community foundation. Founded in 1972, the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford (Foundation) is committed to solving problems, strengthening community organizations, and providing permanent support for Greater Hartfords Jewish community. The Foundation has more than $210 million in assets and awarded nearly $7 million in grants in its fiscal year ending June 30, 2025. The Foundation is building from a position of strength, with a trusted reputation, an engaged board, and a strong base of support, and is now focused on expanding its reach, deepening partnerships and driving measurable, long-term impact. Reporting to the President & CEO, the Vice President for Development and Outreach will play a central role in advancing the Foundations philanthropic vision and mission. Working closely with trustees, senior-level volunteers, and colleagues across the organization, the Vice President will lead efforts to establish new donor relationships, expand philanthropic investment, and strengthen a culture of long-term, values-driven giving. The ideal candidate brings strategic clarity and executional discipline. They will have a demonstrated ability to secure and steward significant gifts, advocate for endowment, engage both established and next-generation donors, and navigate complex philanthropic conversations with credibility, creativity and care. They will have deep appreciation for Jewish life and the Jewish community of Greater Hartford. This leader will also bring a clear point of view on strategic philanthropy and endowment, along with the ability to translate that perspective into actionable strategy and results. As a member of the leadership team, the Vice President will serve as a thought partner across the organizationensuring that fundraising is ambitious, aligned and grounded in the Foundations long-term priorities. Key Responsibilities Lead and evolve the Foundations development and outreach strategy, with clear goals and accountability for results Manage and grow a portfolio of high-capacity donors and prospects, with a focus on securing major endowment gifts Strengthen a culture of endowment and legacy giving across the community, including oversight of Foundation-sponsored initiatives and campaigns Engage and equip trustees and committee members as active partners in donor cultivation and stewardship Partner with professional advisors and their clients to design and implement sophisticated, values-aligned gift strategies Support institutional partners in building endowment programs and strengthening their development capacity Design and test new approaches to donor engagement, particularly for next-generation and currently unaffiliated donors Desired Qualifications Seven or more years in fundraising, philanthropic advising or related fields at a nonprofit, foundation, or charitable services firm, with a track record of securing major and endowment gifts Demonstrated ability to build and sustain meaningful relationships with a wide range of donors Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage, motivate and inspire confidence A clear and thoughtful perspective on philanthropy and its role in strengthening community Demonstrated experience supervising, mentoring and developing professional staff, with a proven ability to build strong teams, foster accountability and achieve organizational goals Creativity, sound judgment and comfort navigating complex or sensitive situations Familiarity with complex charitable gifts (e.g., real estate, closely held stock, estate giving) strongly preferred Deep appreciation for Jewish community and communal life Bachelors degree required Compensation- $130,000-150,000, commensurate with experience. The Foundation provides a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental and vision insurance, and retirement benefits.
