Primary Purpose of Position
The primary responsibilities for this position include General Manager of the NCA& TSU licensed, listener-supported college radio station, WNAA-FM. In this administrative/management role, the position oversees the daily operations, strategic planning, budgeting and community engagement of the radio station. Additionally, this role ensures compliance with FCC regulations; fosters student engagement, development and training; manages fundraising and community outreach efforts; and maintains the Station's mission to serve both the campus and the broader community through diverse, educational, and culturally enriching broadcast/media programming.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The WNAA Radio Station is a unit within the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication ( JOMC) that provides not only a learning lab that gives students practical, "hands-on" experiences in broadcast journalism, but also is a university and community resource that serves and engages its constituents daily via "on-air" broadcasts/programs, music offerings, sports commentaries, community calendars, etc. Known as NC A&T's "Broadcast Voice", which serves the Greensboro, High Point, and Winston-Salem metropolitan radio market, WNAA operates with 10,000 watts at 90.1 MHz MH- HD 1&2 on the FM dial and has a licensed coverage area of 35 to 45 miles (56-64 km). The radio station covers 14 counties in North Carolina and Southwest Virginia.

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication is housed within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. It offers a Bachelor of Science degree with concentrations in multimedia and broadcast journalism, mass media production, and public relations, which are accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication ( ACEJMC). The Department has about 450 majors and intends to propose a graduate degree program in in the near future. Minimum Requirements

  • A bachelor degree in Communication, Media Studies, Broadcasting, or a related field.
  • Experience in radio broadcasting, media management, or a related area.
  • Strong understanding of FCC regulations and public broadcasting standards.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • Four years of progressive experience in broadcast radio and media environment management.
  • Experience/skills in broadcast engineering.

Required License or Certification
