Job Description

Research Specialist I

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

50% Research Feed Delivery:

  • Coordinate with faculty and research staff to determine dietary requirements for research animals, ensuring accuracy and compliance with study protocols.
  • Deliver feed to research facilities based on inventory levels and animal demand, maintaining timely and consistent supply across units.
  • Operate and maintain feed delivery truck, including routine inspections and basic servicing to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Monitor and maintain feed storage systems, including bins and related equipment, ensuring cleanliness, functionality, and proper inventory levels.
  • Follow established biosecurity and sanitation procedures when handling and delivering feed to prevent cross-contamination between research units.
  • Maintain records of feed deliveries, usage, and inventory to support research tracking and operational efficiency.

25% Research Animal Transport:

  • Coordinate and safely transport research swine between farm units, facilities, and market locations. Ensuring proper animal handling practices to minimize stress and maintain welfare standards during loading, transit, and unloading.
  • Operate and maintain vehicles, livestock trailers and equipment for safe and efficient animal movement.
  • Maintain strict adherence to biosecurity protocols to prevent disease transmission between sites.

25% Equine Farm Operations Support

  • Assist with daily operations of the equine facility, including feeding, watering, barn management tasks and general care of horses.
  • Assist with handling and moving horses for routine procedures, treatments, and facility needs.
  • Support pasture and facility maintenance, including fencing, grounds upkeep, equipment maintenance and general labor as needed.
  • Follow established safety protocols and animal welfare standards in all aspects of equine care.

Other duties as assigned

Shift

Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $17.40 - $24.50 hourly.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
