Nurse Practitioner (DOM Occupational Health)

We are seeking a Nurse Practitionerwhose position provides clinical and administrative activities at the Mack Truck/Volvo on-site clinic. The position reports directly to the Regional Coordinator for the Mack Truck/JHU partnership. The position also works closely with the Medical Director and Division Administrator of the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site services forty (40) hours per week at the Mack Truck/Volvo facility in Macungie, PA.
  • Triage and treat, as appropriate, work-related and non-work-related injuries and illnesses.
  • Dispense over the counter and prescription medications in accordance with pre-established standing orders to employees with work-related and non-work-related injuries/illnesses
  • Provide on-site specimen/lab collection for employees presenting lab orders from their PCP.
  • Perform urine drug screening and breath alcohol testing in accordance with Mack Truck/Volvo protocol.
  • Provide support and case management for both work-related and non-work-related conditions for the purpose of reducing illness and absenteeism.
  • Coordinate second opinions for employees absent due to workers' compensation or disability, as necessary in adherence with Mack Truck/Volvo protocols.
  • Assist, coordinate and plan monthly health education seminars and general wellness events.
  • Provide onsite patient education regarding illnesses/injuries, medication, treatments, stretching etc.
  • Provide referrals for employees who need the attention of a primary care physician or specialist in adherence with company protocols.
  • Work collaboratively with patients and their PCP/Specialist to facilitate early diagnosis and management of acute and chronic health problems.
  • Perform on-site physical assessments (DOT, return to work, work-related injuries) as required by Mack Trucks/Volvo.

Administrative services provided to include

  • Maintain and revise, as needed, standardized procedures, protocols and standing orders.
  • Maintain adequate clinical supplies.
  • Maintain Pennsylvania CLIA, required for lab testing provided on-site.
  • Maintain patient medical records.

Work collaboratively with the onsite Mack Truck/Volvo teams to

  • Coordinate and plan health and wellness events and initiatives.
  • Manage workers' compensation claims.
  • Expand clinic services and reach.
  • Provide crisis management/intervention, as needed.
  • Provide general medical advice to the Mack Truck/Volvo Human Resources and Safety/Risk Management departments in Macungie, PA.
  • Ensure the provision of prompt, appropriate clinical care to all patients in accordance with Johns Hopkins University protocols, state regulations, and professional standards.
  • Develop relationships with clinical providers in the area to provide backup clinical care.
  • Ensure timely and appropriate problem resolution and follow-up with employees as required.
  • Ensure all patients receive prompt, courteous, friendly and professional attention to their needs and requests.
  • Ensure onsite clinic facilities are neat, clean, and attractive.
  • Conduct yourself in an exemplary fashion to achieve goals.
  • Ensure timely and appropriate problem resolution and follow-up with Mack Truck/Volvo employees as required.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Nursing; Registered Nurse license and Certified as a Nurse Practitioner in the state where practicing
  • National Board Certification.
  • BLS certification.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of twelve months of related experience in adult medicine.
  • Experience in Occupational Medicine, Workers' Compensation, and DOT exams.
  • DOT Medical Examiner certification.
  • Urine Drug Screen Collector certification
  • Breath Alcohol Technician certification.
  • Analytical ability to evaluate and determine the health status of a patient and implement proper care as indicated including referral to specialty departments
  • Interpersonal skills to interview, teach, counsel patients and interact with clients/employees, coworkers, and outside vendors
  • A comprehensive understanding of outpatient adult medicine, patient care procedures, medical protocols, and testing procedure

Starting Salary Range: $100,000 - $152,900 Annually (Commensurate w/exp.)
