We are seeking resumes for a Safety Specialist in our Counce, TN facility



Function and Scope



The purpose of this position is to, under general direction of the Manager of Health and Safety, develop and implement sustainable processes for accident prevention; conduct site safety audits; make recommendations for compliance with regulations pertaining to occupational and environmental safety, health and fire prevention; and work with employees and managers to implement mitigation measures.



Duties and Responsibilities



  • Demonstrate safety as a core value and establish a safe work environment by actively leading safe work practices.
  • Work with internal and external resources to conduct safety inspections; track, trend and follow up on recommendations to ensure opportunities are resolved.
  • Develop and implement safety curriculum and education of employees.
  • Conduct incident, injury and property loss investigations and develop action plans as necessary.
  • Recognize hazardous conditions and unsafe acts and their cause and make appropriate corrective measures.


  • Evaluate and monitor workplace exposure to chemicals, dust and noise.
  • Develop and manage the implementation of safety policies and procedures in assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Ability to use and calibrate safety-related equipment, i.e., noise level meters, light meter, anemometer, air monitoring equipment. etc.
  • Work with mill wide safety committees and other teams to improve the safety culture of the mill.
  • Maintain knowledge of corporate, division, state and federal rules, regulations and labor agreements.
  • Carry out additional functions delegated by management team.
  • Must be willing to put in the necessary time as needs require, including extended hours during annual maintenance shutdowns, report to the mill during unscheduled work hours to assist in the resolution of safety issues, and report to the mill on weekends on a periodic on-call schedule.


Education and Experience



  • Bachelor's degree in industrial hygiene/occupational safety management, industrial or environmental engineering, or related science field
  • Prefer candidates with 5+ years of experience in industrial/chemical manufacturing
  • Prefer candidates seeking certification toward becoming a Certified Safety Professional



Knowledge/Competencies




  • Knowledge of OSHA standards, Workers Comp Laws, EPA regulations and industrial hygiene practices.
  • Demonstrates proficient oral and written communication skills.
  • Capable of preparing and presenting training sessions to all levels of mill employees on topics related to occupational safety and health.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excell, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Project
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, strong planning and follow-up skills
  • Organizational / Business skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment, prioritize assignments and handle multiple projects and/or request concurrently

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS




  • Starting salary range for position: $70,000 to $85,000.
  • Paid Vacation: Three (3) weeks per calendar year. Pro-rata Vacation during the initial year of hire based upon start date within the calendar year.

  • Within the first 30 days of employment, an employee (and their dependents) is eligible to enroll in certain benefit coverages -- medical, dental, and vision - and are automatically enrolled in life, AD&D, and disability coverages.
  • Upon hire, an employee is automatically enrolled in the 401k plan. The plan offers both pre-tax and Roth contribution options along with employer provided matching contributions.
