What You Will Do:
GFT is seeking an Traffic Management Center (TMC) Operator I - (3rd Shift) to join our WICHway Traffic Management Center Team inWichita, KS! This role follows an in-person work model, requiring regular attendance at the TMC co-located with Sedgwick County 9-1-1 inWichita, KS. We are currently offering the following position for qualified candidates to fill current needs:
- 36 hours a week. Mon-Thursday: 12am-9am or Friday-Sunday: 12am-12pm.

What you'll be challenged to do: A Traffic Management Center (TMC) Operator is responsible for Traffic Operations situational awareness, data entry and monitoring a designated region, district and roadway for normal and emergency conditions to identify incidents, coordinate response and update status for DOT in a 24/7/365 environment, using various software, CCTV and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).
- Situational Awareness: Understand what's happening on the State DOT road network in the Traffic Management Center (TMC).
- Traffic Monitoring: Monitor traffic cameras to spot and respond to incidents quickly. Use CCTV cameras, congestion info from state and commercial sources, crowdsourcing apps like Google Traffic and Waze, and work with partners like law enforcement and DOT.
- Road Closures: Proactively monitor road closures and follow standard operating procedures. Assist with messaging plans for scheduled road closures.
- Equipment Monitoring: Monitor field equipment, dashboards, and software/hardware used in the TMC and report any issues.
- Traffic Monitoring Tools: Use TMC equipment and software to actively monitor traffic.
- Sign Deployment: Put up signing plans on DOT's Portable Changeable Message Signs (PCMS) and Dynamic Message Signs (DMS).
- Real-time Monitoring: Monitor CCTV cameras, electronic signs, vehicle detection systems, incident reporting systems, and other systems to manage traffic.
- Traveler Information: Ensure traveler information is communicated accurately and timely through DOT's channels like KanDrive.
- Public Service Platforms: Verify the accuracy of traveler information on DOT's public service platforms and report any issues.
- Hotspots Monitoring: Monitor hotspots, smart work zones, and changes in road/lane alignments using CCTV cameras and other sources. Communicate with various stakeholders to get a comprehensive view of road conditions.
- Reporting: Assist with monthly reporting for DOT and keep detailed logs such as device maintenance, daily reports, and call logs.
- Weather Monitoring: Work with partners like NWS and DTN to proactively monitor and message for incoming weather such as winter weather, severe thunderstorms, blowing dust, and red flag warnings.
Education | Experience:

- High school diploma or GED required
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Reliable mode of transportation and ability to work in-person at the TMC.
- Expertise in using freeway management and other traffic control computer applications.
- Strong ability to write reports and correspondence.
- Effective coordination of real-time activities and priorities.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a diverse team.
- Experience in handling calls and communicating clearly and concisely.
- Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently or in a team.
- Ability to work overnight and weekend shifts with limited supervision.
- Proficiency in using computers with Windows-based applications.
- Flexibility to work alternate schedules and be on-call as necessary.
- Familiarity with Regional DOT Interstates and local roadways (preferred).
- Experience in public safety, emergency management, transportation dispatch, or related fields (preferred).
Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $18-20 per hour. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
