About This Role

Kansas State University and the Department of English in the College of Arts and Sciences are seeking term (non-tenure track) Instructors to teach expository writing either full-time or part-time for the Fall 2026 semester, with possible continuation into the Spring 2027semester. Term instructors teach a minimum of two 3-credit hours courses and up to four 3-credit hour course sections per semester.


About Us

The instructional team in the Department of English includes tenure-line faculty, regularized instructors, term instructors, graduate teaching assistants, and undergraduate tutors. Together, we serve students across the university, including 150 majors and minors in English and 40 M.A. students in English. Term instructors represent an important contribution to the Department's instructional team. We provide term instructors with opportunities for professional development and collaborative lesson planning; we also provide them with office space with access to computers and other resources. Worksite Description

This position is On-site.

All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.


What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:



  • M.A. in English or related field.
  • At least two years of experience teaching at the college or university level.
  • Experience teaching introductory classes in writing at the college or university level.
  • Excellence in teaching writing, as demonstrated by successful course and lesson design, classroom delivery of course material, and
    assessment of student writing.
  • Attention to a range of experiences and student learning styles through pedagogy and course content.


The degree requirement is necessary for accreditation purposes and to ensure candidates possess the specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities that can only be attained through a formal educational program at this level.

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Expertise in teaching first-year college students.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship
