Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Under general supervisiondigital fluoroscopic and portable radiology equipmentoperatesto obtain routine radiographs of designated body areas according to physician specification and radiographic protocols.

  • Utilizes radiology knowledge to provide services for patients of all ages while adhering to radiation safety and organizational policies. Demonstrates competency in general radiology and fluoroscopy byacquiringand evaluating ordered images for technical quality and ensuring proper patient identification and image labeling.

  • Participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement initiatives to enhance workflows, patient experience, quality, safety, and operational efficiency. Activelyparticipatesin student and employee training and educational activities.

  • Maintains a clean, safe, and prepared work environment, including cleaning and preparing patient rooms. Maintains adequate supplies and inventory within the assigned area.

  • Communicateseffectively with patients to obtain medical history, answer questions, and explain procedures to ensure understanding and comfort.

  • Ensures the proper maintenance and operation of equipment by performing quality control activities and promptly reporting equipment or environmental issues.

  • Provides patient education and support, including preparing patients for procedures and addressing their physical and psychological needs. Escalates concerns throughappropriate channelsas needed.

  • Prioritizes patient flow and coordinates care through consistent and frequent communication with patients, the care team, and families. Documents patient care activities in electronic health record systems anddistributefinal images to the PACS systemin a timely mannerfor interpretation.

  • Consistently acts and communicates professionally, embodying the organization's SPIRIT values and fostering a respectful and supportive environment for patients, families, and colleagues. Adheres to the ARRT Standards of Ethics.

  • Adheres to departmental policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards, ensuring compliance with federal, state, professional, and accreditation requirements.

  • Follows direction from leadership, ensuring adherence toestablishedprotocols, maintaining patient flow, and seeking clarification when necessary.

Qualifications

Education

  • Associate's degreerequired;or

  • Certificate in Radiologic Technology (awarded before January 1, 2015) from a program accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE), the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or the Medical Education and Training Campus (METC)required.

Experience

  • Prior work experienceis notrequired.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)requiredupon hire in Maryland;requiredwithin90 daysof hire in Washington, DC.

  • Licensed Radiologic Technologist in the applicable state (Maryland or Virginia)requiredupon hire.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certificationrequiredupon hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Basic computer skillsare preferred.
