Summary

Provide the appropriate experience and perform instructional duties for the Interservice Physician Assistant Program (IPAP)/ Bachelor and Master of Science Physician Assistant Curriculum. Includes classroom/lab, multiple preparation hours, and office hours for assisting students one-on-one. Work location is at the MEDCoE, Department of Graduate Education, Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA), Fort Sam Houston, TX.

Courses include Clinical Competencies for the Physician Assistant Profession as outlined by the national Commission on Certification of the Physician Assistant (NCCPA), the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant and the guidelines of the Physician Assistant Education Association.

Job Description



  • Plans, refines and assists in presenting graduate hours of Physician Assistant education
  • Develops, evaluates, modifies and instructs graduate level classes
  • Leverages emerging technologies and evidence-based medical literature in the presentation of the classes
  • Reviews class content and teaching aids
  • Utilizing data from student critiques and quality improvement peer review
  • Ensures appropriate university requirements
  • Assists in conducting approximately 80 hours of practical exercises
  • Provides direct patient health care
  • Instructor duties as assigned


Educational and Experience Requirements:



  • Technical Instructor IV requires Master's degree (minimum) in Physician Assistant Studies
  • Current certification/licensure as Physician Assistant (e.g. NCCPA certification)
  • Clinical Experience: Minimum 10+ years of clinical practice as Physician Assistant required
  • Teaching Experience: 10+ years Teaching, mentoring, or precepting experience minimum


Other Qualifications and Experience



  • Minimum requirements are an NCCPA certification, master's degree, and graduate education degree or three years' experience teaching at a graduate-level physician assistant program, a medical school or an equivalent health education program)
  • Must have a National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians site code
  • Must have an active affiliation with NAEMT and a training background in Tactical Combat Casualty Care
  • Must be a member of the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) and accredited by AAALAC International
  • Must complete ALAAS training within 10 days of contract award
  • Must be physically fit to the extent they can perform all tasks required of the students
  • Must complete a Workplace Occupational Health Assessment within 30 days of start date
  • Special Operations Forces and critical care background preferred


  • Must have served in current theater of operations in a medical role I or II assignment totaling at least 24 months
  • Must be an authority in physician assistant clinical practice (PA-C with not less than 10 years of clinical practice)
  • Must be an expert in administration and management of an accreditation evolving database
  • Maintains NCCPA certification
  • Maintains PA professional privileges/credentials at local military medical treatment facility
  • Have extensive professional knowledge and skill

    • as a NCCPA certified physician assistant
    • performing minor surgical and resuscitation procedures.
    • in clinical pharmacology and human anatomy and physiology.
    • in performing and documenting a complete physical examination of patients
    • in laboratory and radiological diagnostic testing
    • in using complex simulation technology (Laerdal Corporation's SimMan patient simulator and arterial/venous access mannequins)
    • in counseling and managing students in a rigorous graduate level program
    • conducting graduate level research and applying experimental theories
    • of educational requirements for graduate level accreditation programs
    • in adult educational theory and diverse instructional methodologies
    • to meet an academic position at the professor level with the affiliating university


  • Maintain professional credentials and provide direct patient care
  • Abide by all credentialing processes required
  • Comply with MEDCoE and MTF policies regarding personal appearance and conduct.
  • Meet Continuing Medical Education requirements as directed by MTF
  • Personnel Security investigation required
  • Immunization Screening required


Salary: $80,000 - $90,000
