The Terminal Manager supervises all departmental personnel and is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating daily gate and terminal cargo handling operations, as well as associated administrative functions, to meet customer standards and maximize profits. Participates in the discipline and employment processes by making decisions to hire, promote/demote, and terminate employment.




  • Responsible for the supervision of subordinate personnel to ensure that all work is accomplished consistently with organizational requirements.
  • Conduct employee training sessions on subjects such as hazardous material handling, employee orientations, quality improvements, and computer usage.
  • Participate in the settlements of on-the-job grievances.
  • Implement schedule and policy changes.
  • Ensure that continuous improvement is being done with regard to policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
  • Monitor operations to ensure that staff members comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, union contracts, and government regulations.
  • Promote safe work activities by conducting safety audits, attending company safety meetings, and meeting with individual staff members.
  • Monitor spending to ensure that expenses are consistent with approved budgets.
  • Conduct investigations to determine causes of accidents and to improve safety procedures.
  • Analyze expenditures and other financial information to develop plans, policies, and budgets that increase profits and improve services.
  • Set operations policies and standards, including determination of safety procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned.




  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Operational knowledge of VLOG Terminal Operating System.
  • A minimum of 3 years managing related union labor.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Experience with computerized operating systems.
  • Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of cargo stowage and stability are strongly desired.
  • Knowledge of local unions' dispatching rules.
  • Required to observe all safety and health requirements for the container terminal environment.
  • Valid CPR certification and a valid driver's license are required. The successful candidate must also be able to obtain and maintain a valid TWIC card.



Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes ( Office Manager, Terminal Superintendent, Warehouse personnel)



Work environment:



  • Required job duties are normally performed in a climate-controlled office environment.
  • Exposure to computer screens.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
