Summary:
The driver safely transports patients, medical supplies, or specimens between homes, facilities, and appointments, requiring excellent driving, patient assistance (sometimes with wheelchairs), vehicle maintenance, and detailed record-keeping, focusing on compassion for our patients.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Patient Transportation
Safely operates Hospital owned vehicles to transport patients, visitors and staff as requested. Operates Hospital vehicles to transport supplies, equipment, inter-office mail, specimens, etc. as requested. Follow all traffic laws, ensures vehicle and passenger safely, and operate responsibly. During transport, is responsible for the safety, location and well-being of the people being transported, focusing on patient assistance with loading/unloading patient belongings. Will only transport minors (those individuals under the age of 18) with clinical staff, parent or guardian in the vehicle with the driver. Driver is responsible for their Hospital issued cell phone. Driver is to carry at all times while on duty and when on call.
Vehicle Responsibility
Assigned Vehicle - Checks lights, fluid levels and safety equipment on a daily basis. Maintains the appearance and cleanliness (interior and exterior) on a daily basis. Vehicle Fleet - All drivers are responsible for the appearance (interior and exterior), cleanliness, safety, maintenance and fuel level for all Hospital owned vehicles. Ensure patient care vehicles are cleaned off and cleared of snow and ice for safe patient and staff use. Move vehicles as needed for the maintenance department to complete snow removal. Ensures all Hospital vehicles have up to date registration and insurance cards in their assigned pouch. Ensures all Hospital vehicles have their safety toolbox and all items are accounted for on a scheduled monthly basis or after a known emergency with a vehicle. Drivers must carry emergency phone numbers on their assigned cell phone, 911, insurance company, towing service.
Professionalism
Complies with hospital-directed dress code. Maintains a professional appearance at all times. Maintains patient confidentiality. Follows all directives of the Executive Director of Procurement. Complies with hospital policies and procedures. Complies with hospital safety, employee health, staff education, and performance improvement programs. Begins drives on time and is prepared for job responsibilities. Communicates in a respectful manner with all patients, visitors and staff, keeps conversations to a minimum and only discusses general subjects, i.e. sports, weather, etc. Complies with on-call policy and maintains availability during schedule on-call periods.
Multi-disciplinary Function
Assist staff with search of patient luggage (as requested). Assist in the training and orientation of a new driver under the direction of the Executive Director of Procurement. Take personal responsibility to communicate daily with assigned staff during the coordination of patient transports. Work as a member of a team. Strong customer service skills. Excellent time management and organizational skills Responds to drivers' requests and emails as assigned.

Physical/Mental Demands:
Verbal and hearing ability to interact with patients and employees. Numerical ability required to maintain records. Must be able to read and communicate through written, verbal and auditory skills and abilities. Good hand and eye coordination. Manual dexterity for skillful driving. Must possess the skills to drive in all weather conditions. Must be able to read maps and operate a GPS to find locations in unfamiliar territory. Must be able to spend majority of their time driving. Must be able to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds. Physically/Mentally able to perform job duties as verified by a physical exam by a licensed physician, per post-employment physical.
Education/Training Requirements:
18 years of age or older. Valid Wisconsin Driver's License. Must be approved by Rogers Memorial Hospital insurance carrier. Previous experience in transporting people preferred. Experience in the mental health field preferred.
Available schedules: Monday-Friday: 7 AM - 3:30 PM, 8 AM - 4:30 PM, 9:30 AM - 6 PM (Drivers will also participate in a rotating on-call schedule)
