Project Overview Our client in the property & casualty insurance space is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to play a key role in transforming their enterprise data ecosystem. Following a large-scale implementation of Guidewire (claims, policy, and billing systems), the organization is transitioning away from vendor-supported data solutions and moving toward full ownership of their data platform. This role will be instrumental in designing and building a modern, scalable data architecture leveraging Snowflake, Azure, and Databricks, with a major initiative focused on replacing Guidewire's DataHub / InfoCenter (DHIC) with an in-house data solution. The engineer will work closely with architects and business stakeholders to establish data standards, modernize pipelines, and enable reliable, audit-ready data for enterprise reporting. This is a highly visible opportunity to influence data strategy and help shape how data engineering is executed across the organization. Key Initiatives & Business Impact * Drive the transition from vendor-managed data solutions to a fully owned, in-house data platform * Lead the design and build of a Snowflake-based data warehouse to support enterprise analytics and reporting * Modernize and optimize Guidewire data pipelines to improve accessibility and performance * Establish data governance, integrity, and standardization practices across multiple data sources * Enable the organization to efficiently access, trust, and utilize data for business decision-making * Support data ingestion and transformation efforts as the organization scales its data maturity * Partner with leadership and cross-functional teams to define data architecture strategy and best practices Required Skills & Experience * Strong experience with SQL, Azure, Databricks, and Snowflake * Proven ability to design and build scalable data platforms, particularly within Snowflake environments * Experience developing and optimizing data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes * Strong understanding of data modeling, data architecture, and data warehousing concepts * Ability to ingest and structure data from multiple formats (e.g., Excel, PDF, raw data sources) into usable datasets * Experience ensuring data quality, governance, and integrity across data layers * Comfortable driving technical solutions, architectural decisions, and tool selection * Strong communication skills with the ability to partner with business leaders and technical teams * Master's degree extremely preferred but not required. Preferred Qualifications * Experience within the insurance industry, particularly property & casualty * Familiarity with Kafka and Apache Spark * Experience working in environments transitioning from third-party/vendor solutions to internal ownership * Ability to collaborate closely with data architects and influence evolving platform design Work Environment * Hybrid flexibility with occasional on-site collaboration (within driving distance of Sioux City, IA) roughly 5-10%. * Collaborative, business-facing data team with strong leadership visibility * Opportunity to contribute to a high-impact, enterprise-wide transformation initiative *Job Type & Location*This is a Contract position based out of South Sioux City, NE. *Pay and Benefits*The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $80.00/hr.
