State Department Federal Credit Union is seeking a Mortgage Loan Processor who will be responsible for guiding members through the loan application process, ensuring all required documentation is obtained, reviewed, and organized for underwriting. This role plays a critical part in verifying compliance with regulatory and secondary market standards, while delivering excellent member service. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Organize and prepare loan files for underwriting, ensuring all documents are easily accessible and formatted appropriately.
  • Complete and send verification forms (e.g., employment, income, mortgage, deposits) promptly.
  • Order and review credit reports, appraisals, and title reports, addressing any discrepancies or adverse conditions.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for members throughout the mortgage process.
  • Communicate effectively with Loan Officers, realtors, sellers, insurance agents, closing agents, and appraisers to resolve issues and coordinate processes.
  • Monitor loan files for compliance with secondary market and regulatory standards.
  • Provide updates and clarification regarding adverse information to ensure underwriter approval.
  • Review and address any conditions or additional requirements post-underwriting.
  • Maintain an active pipeline of 20 to 45 loans monthly, ensuring timely processing and closures.
  • Coordinate settlement dates with members, title companies, and closers.

Qualifications

Summary of Physical Demand:



  1. Reads loan applications, related documentation, mail, manuals, etc.
  2. Speaks with employees, members and outside contacts; receives and places telephone calls
  3. Uses the computer about 10% of the time
  4. Operates computers, calculators, printers, copiers, and fax machines
  5. Spends about 85% of daily working hours sitting, 10% standing, and 5% walking
  6. Handles material weighing 10 lbs. approximately 15% of the time



Required Skills and Competencies:



  1. Associate's degree preferred or equivalent specialized training in mortgage or financial services
  2. Minimum of 3 years of related work experience in mortgage or financial processing
  3. Knowledge of Agency, Freddie Mac, and Fannie Mae underwriting guidelines
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; familiarity with Encompass preferred
  5. Accurate typing at a minimum speed of 35 words per minute
  6. Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  7. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  8. Ability to exercise sound judgment and diplomacy
  9. Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) registration required within 30 days of employment
