The Contract Field Technician plays a critical, customer-facing role in supporting utility-based programs through the installation, commissioning, and service of energy management technologies in residential and small business environments. This role is well suited for a self-motivated professional who works with accountability, acts with authenticity, adapts with agility, collaborates effectively, and approaches each service interaction with a customer-centric mindset.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Deliver a high-quality, customer-centric experience through professional, respectful, and solution-oriented interactions with customers.

  • Perform field installation, setup, and commissioning of advanced energy management and control systems in residential homes and small business locations.

  • Install and configure intelligent thermostats, digital control units, and load control devices on refrigerated air conditioning systems.

  • Complete low-voltage and line-voltage equipment and wiring installations in accordance with applicable standards, safety expectations, and program requirements.

  • Provide clear and supportive instruction to customers on system programming, operation, and basic product use.

  • Troubleshoot installation and connectivity issues in the field and identify practical, innovative solutions that support successful deployment.

  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas before, during, and after each installation.

  • Drive to customer locations throughout the Albuquerque Metro area using a company vehicle and manage daily schedules with accountability and efficiency.

  • Work independently while also collaborating with internal teams to ensure timely service delivery, accurate documentation, and a consistent customer experience.

  • Demonstrate agility in responding to changing field conditions, customer needs, and operational priorities.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 1 to 2 years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience, including HVAC-related work.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel daily to local customer sites within the Albuquerque Metro area.

  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate authentically and clearly with a wide range of customers.

  • Ability to work independently, stay organized, and manage responsibilities with a high level of accountability.

  • Experience installing, troubleshooting, or servicing technical equipment in the field.

  • Basic computer proficiency and comfort using mobile devices for job-related tasks.

  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role, including standing, walking, climbing ladders, reaching, kneeling, crouching, and lifting up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Ability to work safely in indoor and outdoor environments that may include exposure to weather, vibration, moving mechanical parts, and electrical equipment.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Electrical installation experience.

  • Experience installing, troubleshooting, and servicing networking devices.

  • Knowledge of LAN/WAN topologies, cabling standards, components, and related troubleshooting practices.

  • Familiarity with basic TCP/IP protocols.

  • Training from a two-year college, technical school, or relevant in-field technical program.

  • Journeyman Electrician, Master Electrician, or HVAC license.

  • Experience working in utility, energy, field service, or other technology-enabled service environments.

  • Demonstrated ability to contribute in a collaborative, innovative, and fast-paced team environment.

Certification(s):Driver's license

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel small and medium sized components. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and to lift weight or exert force up to 50 pounds. The employee in this position works in an environment where there is a risk of electrical shock, and there is vibration. The employee may be required to work near moving mechanical parts or outdoor weather conditions.
