Rutgers University - Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking a Director, Counseling Center. Under the general direction of the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Health & Wellness, responsibilities include directing clinical and support staff and all administrative activities related to the provision and management of mental health services to over 11,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The role requires availability to respond to urgent student mental health situations outside of normal business hours, including after-hours crisis intervention and occasional scheduled evening or weekend responsibilities.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
- Evaluates and treat students for developmental and psychological/emotional difficulties.
- Directs campus outreach programs.
- Consults with staff, faculty, and students.
- Maintains liaison relationships with health professionals at the Student Health Services.
- Provides leadership in formulating campus policies on psychological issues.
- Recruits, select, train and supervise clinicians, professional staff and graduate students in mental health fields.
- Conduct research relevant to the needs of the student population.
- Serves as a key member of both the Campus Awareness Response and Education (CARE) Team and Threat Assessment and Safety Committee which evaluates the level of risk in given situations, recommends appropriate interventions, and monitors students who represent a potential threat to self or others.
- Provides campuswide training on current student mental health and wellness issues to faculty, staff and student constituencies.

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
- Requires a Ph.D. or equivalent in Psychology, Counseling, and/or Social Work with at least five years of experience at a Counseling Center or clinic including supervisory experience.

- Requires New Jersey license as a psychologist, counselor, and/or social worker.

| Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Ability and qualifications to provide clinical supervision of staff.
- High level of comfort in working with diverse populations and the ability to deliver culturally responsive therapeutic services and support.
- Advanced skills in mental health program planning and development.
- Must be able to multitask and respond well under pressure in crisis situations.
- Also requires excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer literacy.
- 5 years post licensure experience in treating mental illnesses.
- Expected to make complex clinical decisions, provide clinical supervision to staff, and to intervene in potentially life threatening clinical situations.
- Enthusiasm and a high level of expertise in working with diverse populations.

- Experience with severe and complex psychopathology is strongly preferred.
- Experience, familiarity with University mental health multidisciplinary work is preferred.
