This opportunity is in the Insurance Underwriting Department.

The Insurance Underwriting Department offers a culture of

Role Description:

As an Underwriter on our Public Entity Practice team, you will play a key role in evaluating and underwriting new and renewal multi-line public entity business while building strong relationships with brokers, risk managers, and internal business partners. Working closely with your manager and mentor, you will analyze complex risks, develop competitive and profitable quotations, and contribute to the continued growth of our Public Entity portfolio. This collaborative role offers the opportunity to deepen your underwriting expertise while partnering with Claims, Business Development, and Excess Workers' Compensation teams to deliver creative solutions and exceptional service to our customers.
You will evaluate underwriting submissions, review financial and loss information, determine appropriate retention levels, pricing, and policy terms, and negotiate acceptable coverage solutions. You'll also help identify new business opportunities, strengthen broker relationships through cross-selling initiatives, and represent Safety National at industry events while supporting the achievement of departmental production and profitability goals.

Qualifications:
Education



  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Risk Management, Insurance, Finance, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent insurance industry experience will also be considered.


Required Qualifications:



  • Experience evaluating commercial insurance risks and applying sound underwriting principles.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial statements, loss experience, claims information, and exposure data.
  • Presently authorized to work in the U.S. without a requirement for work authorization sponsorship by our company for this position now or in the future.
  • This position allows for a hybrid work schedule which includes minimum of 3 days per week in our St. Louis Corporate Office, located at 1832 Schuetz Rd. Saint Louis, MO. All employees are required to submit work from home requests and follow our Work From Home policy, which will be provided to all candidates selected to interview.
  • Ability to assess pricing, retention levels, policy terms, and coverage structures for complex accounts.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively negotiate and build relationships with brokers, clients, and internal business partners.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Risk Management, Insurance, Finance, or a related field.
  • Professional insurance designations such as AINS, CIC, AU, or similar.
  • Experience underwriting public entity business, self-insured groups, or large retention casualty accounts.
  • Knowledge of public entity exposures, risk management practices, and the excess casualty marketplace.
  • Experience collaborating with claims, business development, and underwriting teams to develop comprehensive insurance solutions.
  • Experience identifying new business opportunities and managing broker relationships.

Safety National is committed to fair, transparent pay and we strive to provide competitive, market-based compensation. In our vision to be First with Co-Workers, compensation is only one piece of the comprehensive total rewards package we offer. The target base salary range for this position is
$61,000 to $94,000. Compensation for the successful candidate will consider the candidate's particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, experience and geographic location.
