Description

The Painter III performs advanced industrial painting operations on structural steel, crane components, and fabricated metal products. This position is responsible for surface preparation, coating application, quality inspections, and ensuring compliance with customer specifications and company quality standards. Painter III serves as a subject matter resource within the department and may assist with training and mentoring less experienced painters.

3rd shift 10pm - 6am M-F ($5.00hr shift differential)

Job Duties:

  • Perform surface preparation including blasting, cleaning, masking, and material handling.
  • Apply industrial coatings including epoxy, zinc-rich primers, urethanes, and specialty coatings in accordance with customer specifications and paint manufacturer requirements.
  • Set up, adjust, troubleshoot, and maintain painting equipment including airless and conventional spray systems.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, paint specifications, and coating requirements.
  • Inspect completed work for coating thickness, coverage, adhesion, and overall quality.
  • Identify and correct coating defects and application issues.
  • Train and mentor Painter I and Painter II employees on proper techniques and safety procedures.
  • Assist with workflow planning and coordination to meet production schedules.
  • Maintain paint inventory and ensure proper handling and storage of materials.
  • Follow all safety, environmental, and quality procedures.
Requirements
  • Minimum 4-6 years of industrial painting experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong experience with epoxy, zinc-rich, urethane, and specialty coating systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of airless spray equipment and paint application techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret customer specifications and technical documents.
  • Experience working with coating thickness gauges and inspection equipment preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

  • Ability to carry/lift up to 45 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to push/pull up to 75 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the work shift
  • Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and squat
  • Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and elevated work surfaces
  • Ability to work at heights while using required fall protection equipment
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including full face respirators, protective suits, gloves, eye protection, and hearing protection
  • Ability to pass medical evaluation and fit testing requirements for respirator use in accordance with OSHA requirements
  • Ability to distinguish colors and identify paint inconsistencies or defects
  • Exposure to hot and cold conditions
  • Subject to standing on hard surfaces up to 12 hours per day.
  • Subject to exposure to dust, vapors, and other air contaminants. PPE required.
