Job Summary

The Class A Truck Driver is responsible for safely operating commercial vehicles to deliver waterworks materials and supplies to customer and construction sites. This role ensures timely deliveries, maintains compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, performs vehicle inspections, and provides professional customer service. The Class A Truck Driver may occasionally assist with loading activities and support warehouse operations as needed.

Job Responsibilities



  • Operate an automatic tractor with a 48-foot trailer to transport materials to customer and construction sites.
  • Deliver waterworks products, including fire hydrants, pipes, valves, fittings, and related materials.
  • Ensure deliveries are completed according to established schedules and delivery requirements.
  • Verify delivery addresses, directions, and customer contact information prior to delivery.
  • Coordinate with contractors and customers at delivery sites to ensure accurate delivery and placement of materials.
  • Occasionally load materials using a sit-down forklift as required.
  • Assist with unloading materials when necessary.
  • Ensure all loads are properly secured and comply with weight restrictions and transportation regulations.
  • Obtain customer signatures on delivery documentation and maintain accurate delivery records.
  • Pick up customer returns and verify materials match return requests and documentation.
  • Complete local purchase order pickups as assigned.
  • Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Fuel vehicles and report vehicle defects, accidents, moving violations, or maintenance concerns promptly.
  • Return delivery documentation and verify completeness and accuracy.
  • Maintain communication with supervisors throughout the workday.
  • Assist with warehouse operations as needed.
  • Represent the organization professionally and provide excellent customer service.
  • Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and DOT regulations.
  • Work overtime as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


Job Requirements



  • Minimum of one year of experience operating Class A commercial vehicles required.
  • Minimum of one year holding a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Required state-issued self-certification designation of non-excepted interstate status and proof of certification required.
  • Experience operating commercial tractor-trailers required.
  • Experience driving manual transmission trucks preferred.
  • Ability to operate a sit-down forklift or willingness to complete training required.
  • Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and safe driving practices.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage delivery schedules effectively.
  • Ability to work overtime and travel to delivery locations as required.


Education



  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
