Job Summary:

The Clinical Science Liaison will provide scientific support and leadership related to the Clinical testing portfolio within the Clinical Business Unit. Areas of focus include (but not limited to) therapeutic drug monitoring, clinical toxicology, clinical chemistry, and clinical immunology testing performed by spectrophotometry, immunoassay, and a wide range of mass spectrometry methods.

Requirements:

  • Masters in a science-related field with 4-6 years, or Ph.D. in a science-related field with 3-5 years' relevant experience working in a commercial clinical laboratory environment.
  • ABCC or NRCC eligible or certified is preferred.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Clinical Scientific Engagement Team to monitor and help oversee new test development, validation and implementation.
  • Monitor patterns and trends of clinical test orders, service delivery and distribution of results to assure alignment of customer needs with discrete patient populations.
  • Develop and hone Clinical expertise through strategically aligned educational initiatives including participation in relevant symposia, conferences, CME events, and review of key journals.
  • Serve as internal consulting SME in Clinical testing and work collaboratively with internal functions (marketing, sales, R&D, lab operations, etc.) to accomplish strategic objectives.
  • Organize, coordinate and provide internal and external scientific engagement efforts on behalf of the Clinical Business Unit; material and tone are to be tailored for the audience.
  • Generate scientific content in conjunction with technical staff, sales & marketing; scientific content may include webinars, recorded presentations, short clips, publications, social media posts, and short articles. Review scientific content for technical accuracy.
  • Participate in a strategy team to maintain market leadership and seek innovation opportunities.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and collaborate with the NMS Clinical Sales team on strategically important calls as assigned.
  • Increase NMS's visibility and understanding of Clinical testing capabilities with current and future opinion and educational leaders.
  • Identify, establish and maintain collaborative relationships with national opinion leaders, investigators, institutions, and professional societies strategically influencing related Clinical markets.
  • Maintain awareness and knowledge of additional influences for the Clinical testing market; these include, but not limited to, testing standards development, clinical practice guidelines, FDA approved drug labeling and legislative actions.
  • Review and advise on the Clinical testing portfolio; improvements may include nomenclature standardization, scope recommendations, verification of reference intervals and updating reference comments.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Understand approaches and requirements for analytical test development and validation under CLIA regulations for LDTs.
  • Hands-on experience with evaluation of data generated by common instrumentation including spectrophotometers, automated chemistry analyzers, chromatography and mass spectrometry in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Understand basic elements for teamwork and be successful in a cross functional team environment.
  • Conduct good oral and written communications.
  • Possesses essential computer skills.
  • Meets regulatory compliance standards and has knowledge of and follows proper safety practices.
  • Ability to effectively present technical information and respond to questions in an understandable manner.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex technical data, procedures, and instructions in verbal, written, mathematical or diagrammatical form.
  • Ability to appropriately handle technical and clinical inquiries or complaints.
  • Ability to define and resolve problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to write presentations and articles using original or innovative techniques or style.
  • Ability to make effective speeches/presentations to management, public groups and/or scientific forums.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to talk, stand, reach with hands and arms, and use hands and fingers to manipulate instrument/equipment controls, computer keyboard, office equipment, objects, or tools.
  • Moving from one work location to another to sit and stand, sometimes for extended periods of time
  • Specific vision abilities (with correction) including color, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to focus.
  • Ability to travel both locally and out of state as needed.
