Position Summary

The Financial Counselor
provides financial counseling, insurance verification, submits and obtains
authorizations and related administrative support for Outpatient Rehabilitation
Services. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial clearance
and registration processes, assisting patients with billing and
insurance-related and authorization inquiries, and supporting clinic operations
as needed.



Essential Duties and
Responsibilities



  • Perform
    financial counseling functions for outpatient rehabilitation services,
    including financial clearance and financial screening.
  • Register
    patients accurately and efficiently, ensuring complete and compliant
    documentation.
  • Process
    insurance authorizations and verify coverage requirements in coordination
    with third-party payors.
  • Respond to
    walk-in patient billing inquiries and provide clear explanations regarding
    financial responsibility and insurance coverage.
  • Provide
    cost estimates for services to be rendered and advise patients on meeting
    third-party payor requirements.
  • Serve as a
    liaison between patients, providers, and internal hospital departments to
    facilitate smooth access to care.
  • Act as a
    backup for front office operations, including patient scheduling and
    check-in activities.
  • Float to
    outpatient rehabilitation clinics as operational needs require.



Compensation



  • Salary
    Range:
    $30.36 - $43.49 per hour

Qualifications

Qualifications



  • Proficiency
    with basic computer applications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and
    Outlook.
  • Ability to
    perform basic arithmetic operations, including addition, subtraction, and
    calculation of rates and percentages.
  • Working
    knowledge of encounter registration processes, including financial class
    codes.
  • Ability to
    work effectively in fast-paced, distracting, and high-pressure
    environments while maintaining focus, flexibility, and accuracy with
    minimal supervision.
  • Strong
    organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks amid
    fluctuating demands and workloads.
  • Reading
    comprehension skills sufficient to understand intake forms, therapist and
    patient instructions, and hospital policies written in standard English.
  • Ability to
    work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal
    direction.
  • Manual
    dexterity and physical ability to perform essential job duties, including
    operating a computer and using a telephone headset.
  • Strong
    interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact
    effectively with patients and staff from diverse cultural and
    socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated
    ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team,
    including sharing knowledge, providing and receiving feedback, taking
    initiative, and contributing to problem-solving efforts.
  • Working
    knowledge of insurance products including HMOs, PPOs, and insurance
    contracting.
  • Experience
    obtaining insurance benefits, eligibility verification, and
    authorizations, as well as providing financial counseling and financial
    screening.
  • Ability to
    serve as a liaison between patients, physicians' offices, and other
    hospital departments.
  • Ability to
    perform job responsibilities effectively despite frequent interruptions
    and competing priorities.
  • Working
    knowledge of physical therapy treatments and related medical terminology.
