| Summary of Position: |
The School of Design and Manufacturing invites applications for an adjunct faculty position in the Materials Science and Technology (MATL) program. This position requires teaching undergraduate-level lecture and laboratory coursework in a "hands-on" academic environment. To facilitate this, adjunct faculty are expected to be student-oriented and able to integrate practical experience and current technology into the learning environment.
This is a pooled position. One or more applicants may be hired as needed to teach classes on a semester-by-semester basis.
Courses are to be taught in person on one of Ferris State University's Campuses. The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan by the first day of employment and will perform duties at a Ferris site.
The anticipated start date for this position is August 2026 at the earliest, and January 2027 at the latest.
The selected candidate for this position must be authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire without employer assistance or sponsorship now or in the future. The university will not assist with any F-1 EADs, OPT, H-1 B, etc. |

The standard for teaching college credit courses at the associate degree level (1XX, 2XX) shall be a bachelor's (or higher) degree in the field or a closely related area. The standard for teaching college credit courses at the baccalaureate level (3XX, 4XX) shall be a master's degree in the field or a closely related area, or a master's degree and 18 graduate hours in the field. The standard to teach college credit courses at the graduate level shall be a terminal degree in the field or a closely related area, or a practice terminal qualification as defined by the college faculty qualification guideline. |

The following combinations of education and experience shall be considered qualifying tested experience to teach at the associate's level (1xx, 2xx). The experience considered shall comply with the quality and nature of the tested experience defined above. * a bachelor's degree or higher out of the field, an associate's degree in the field, and 5 years of relevant industry experience. * a bachelor's degree out of field and 7 years of relevant industry experience. * an associate's degree in the field and 7 years of relevant industry experience.

| Essential Duties/Responsibilities: |
Primary responsibility is teaching Material Sciences to undergraduate level students in AS and BS Engineering Technology degree programs:
Meet established course outcomes.
Plan, deliver, and grade all course content and student work for assigned courses. Conduct classes, labs, or other assignments as directed and in a professional manner.
The position may entail full-time or part-time teaching loads and related activities, based on program needs.
Close consultation with program faculty, as well as training via university-provided programs (where appropriate).
Maintain at least 1 hour per week per course section for office hours to meet with students outside of class or lecture, at a time convenient to students.
Faculty members also have professional responsibilities, which may include, but are not limited to, regularly scheduled office hours (at times convenient for students) and participation in traditional academic functions (e.g., reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time). Faculty may be required to teach off-campus or online.
Carries out responsibilities in accordance with university policies and applicable laws.
Cultivates an environment of belonging that values, respects, supports, and celebrates individual similarities and differences, allowing students, faculty, and staff to thrive authentically.
Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives.
Any other duties assigned within the position classification area. |
