About the Job

Student Ombuds Services (SOS) at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities seeks a motivated team member to assist with creating and implementing educational initiatives. This part-time role is responsible for developing, delivering, and assessing educational experiences related to conflict competency to audiences including students, staff, and faculty at the University.

Situated within an ombuds office, this role supports educational efforts toward preventing and/or competently engaging conflict within an academic context. The person in this role will not serve as an ombudsperson, however they will gain deep insight into the unique work of an organizational ombuds office. They will deliver workshops and training both virtually and in person, and assist with the development of new educational materials in close collaboration with their supervisor and the Director of SOS.

The Educational Initiatives Coordinator is a hybrid position with a combination of in-person and remote work, and with flexibility regarding scheduling. A weekly schedule will be determined in consultation with the supervisor of this role. The Educational Initiatives Coordinator will be expected to attend in-person staff meetings weekly on Wednesdays.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create and deliver trainings, workshops, website content, and other educational materials relating to conflict competency
  • Assess existing and newly created educational offerings and materials for effectiveness, engagement, and relevance
  • Research conflict competency concepts and skills to incorporate into educational content
  • Survey conflict competency educational offerings at other institutions or organizations to identify areas of possible expansion
  • Collaborate with supervisor to identify additional relevant professional development opportunities
  • Assist SOS staff with additional projects and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or a combination of education and experience to equal 4 years experience
  • Education and/or experience in creating and delivering educational programming, such as training, workshops, and digital resources
  • Experience working with people in a professional and courteous manner
  • Demonstrated competence and experience in communicating across difference and engaging effectively and respectfully with individuals from diverse identities and backgrounds
  • Ability to handle highly confidential information and maintain confidential materials with discretion
  • Experience using MS Office (Word, Powerpoint) and Google Suite (calendar, sheets, drive, slides)
  • Experience managing multiple responsibilities simultaneously, with demonstrated ability to prioritize workload and capacity to be detail-oriented
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills/abilities to communicate effectively with different constituency groups at the University

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in higher education and/or working with young adults
  • Experience developing and delivering engaging learning opportunities on virtual platforms and in-person settings
  • Content area expertise in conflict resolution
About the Department

Student Ombuds Services offers confidential and impartial assistance to students who are navigating University-related conflicts and disputes. We assist students in identifying options for informally resolving various types of conflict, including: grading and instructional concerns, challenges related to academic progress, conflict connected to University policy, and billing and financial concerns.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $20.00 - $22.50 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
