Position Summary

LF Driscoll, past of the STO Building Group, is looking to ass a Building Envelope Design Manager to the team.

The Building Envelope Design Manager is responsible for leading the design-assist process for all building envelope systems during preconstruction and construction. This role serves as the primary liaison between owners, architects, engineers, specialty subcontractors, and manufacturers to ensure that exterior enclosure systems are fully coordinated, constructible, code compliant, and aligned with project budget and schedule milestones. The ideal candidate possesses technical expertise in building envelope systems, strong project management skills, and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams through complex design and construction challenges.

Responsibilities

Design Assist Leadership

  • Lead the building envelope design-assist process from project pursuit through construction completion.
  • Coordinate design development with architects, consultants, owners, and specialty trade partners.
  • Facilitate collaborative meetings to resolve technical and constructability issues.
  • Develop and maintain design-assist schedules, milestones, and deliverables.

Technical Oversight

  • Provide technical expertise for curtain wall, storefront, glazing, waterproofing, roofing, cladding, rainscreen, insulation, air barriers, vapor barriers, sealants, and below-grade waterproofing systems.
  • Review design documents for constructability, sequencing, coordination, and cost impacts.
  • Identify design deficiencies, conflicts, and opportunities for value engineering.
  • Evaluate manufacturer systems and recommend appropriate products and assemblies.

Preconstruction Services

  • Assist estimating teams with budgeting and pricing of building envelope systems.
  • Develop scopes of work for specialty subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Participate in subcontractor qualification and procurement activities.
  • Support proposal development and client presentations during project pursuits.

Project Coordination

  • Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, BIM teams, and field personnel throughout construction.
  • Coordinate shop drawing reviews, mockups, material approvals, and testing requirements.
  • Ensure proper integration of building envelope systems with structural, mechanical, and architectural components.
  • Track design changes and manage associated cost and schedule impacts.

Quality Assurance

  • Develop project-specific quality control plans for enclosure systems.
  • Participate in mockup reviews, field inspections, and quality assurance testing.
  • Coordinate third-party envelope consultants and commissioning activities.
  • Monitor installation practices to ensure compliance with project specifications and manufacturer requirements.

Qualifications

Education/Accreditations

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Architectural Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE), Registered Architect (RA), Registered Roof Consultant (RRC), Registered Exterior Wall Consultant (REWC), or similar industry certification.
  • LEED Accredited Professional or equivalent sustainability credential.

Experience

  • 8+ years of experience in building envelope design, construction, or specialty contracting.
  • Experience with design-assist or design-build project delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple complex commercial construction projects concurrently.
  • Experience coordinating multiple building envelope disciplines.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of glazing, rainscreen, cavity-wall, waterproofing and roofing assemblies.
  • Understanding of building science principles including moisture management, thermal performance, condensation control, and air infiltration.
  • Familiarity with ASTM, AAMA, NFPA, ICC, and local building code requirements.
  • Experience reviewing architectural and structural drawings and shop drawings.
