Special Prosecutor - Narcotics and Drug Trafficking
Washington County, located in West Bend, Wisconsin has an excellent opportunity for a Special Prosecutor - Narcotics and Drug Trafficking within the District Attorney's Office. Under the supervision of the District Attorney, will lead complex investigations and prosecutions targeting large-scale drug trafficking and violent street level distribution networks.

Pay based on experience- $106,913.23 - $121,881.10

Position Summary:
This prosecutor will lead complex investigations and prosecutions targeting large-scale drug trafficking and violent street level distribution networks. The role requires navigating sophisticated investigative techniques, coordinating with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners, and bringing high-stakes criminal cases to trial.

Duties/Responsibilities:
*Direct Complex Investigations: Manage long-term, proactive investigations utilizing sophisticated law enforcement techniques, including confidential informants, undercover operations, and other law enforcement tools.
*Warrant Review: Draft, review, and authorize search warrants and subpoenas related to digital evidence, financial records, and physical properties.
*Asset Forfeiture: Identify and pursue the seizure of narcotics proceeds, targeting illicit financial networks connected to drug trafficking.
*Pre-Trial & Trial Practice: Draft comprehensive pleadings, handle discovery compliance, argue pre-trial motions, and serve as lead counsel in jury trials.
*Plea Negotiations: Formulate charging decisions, propose dispositions, and negotiate plea agreements in alignment with office policies and public safety goals.
*Law Enforcement Liaison: Work closely with local, state, and federal law enforcement to build robust, multi-jurisdictional cases.
*Legal Advisement: Provide legal guidance to law enforcement agents regarding constitutional law, search and seizure rules, and operational strategies.
*Community Outreach: Collaborate with community leaders and public health organizations to address local drug trends and prevent overdose deaths.

Works under the general supervision of the District Attorney.

Supervision Exercised:
None.

Decision Making:
Decisions are made independently concerning preparation and trial of cases, other daily activities, prioritizing workload, subject to office policies and direction of the District Attorney.

Interaction:
There is significant interaction with attorneys, Circuit Court Judges, the Clerk of Courts, law enforcement agencies, and the general public.

Essential Knowledge and Abilities:
Comprehensive knowledge of criminal statutes, proceedings, and procedures, and knowledge of the practices and techniques used in the presentation of criminal cases in court. Strong knowledge of pertinent caselaw and judicial procedures and rules of evidence. Ability to appraise and organize facts, and to apply legal principles based upon a review and evaluation of the facts presented. Ability to negotiate and resolve disputes in a variety of situations. Ability to effectively present materials in written and oral formats. Ability to tactfully and effectively deal with attorneys, the public, and representatives of other government agencies. Knowledge of modern office equipment. Ability to prioritize and work independently. Ability to work under time restraints.

Training and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited law school, licensure to practice law in the State of Wisconsin, and a minimum of 2 years of criminal prosecution experience, including experience in prosecuting narcotics and drug trafficking offenses. Must possess a valid Wisconsin driver's license.
