Description

As an Environmental Specialist II- Remediation, you will provide environmental consulting services that consist of environmental assessment, investigation, and remediation field activities, laboratory analytical data review, and report preparation to assist in evaluating and mitigating environmental risk for KLJ client projects. Specific tasks may include the observation, monitoring, assessment, documentation, sample collection and classification of contaminated media, providing oversight and documentation of waste disposal activities, conducting Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, and supporting large scale construction monitoring projects.



  • Complete moderately complex tasks and lead environmental field activities
  • Interact with clients or contractors and provide information as requested by the project manager.
  • Contribute to meetings with stakeholders or clients and coordinate with federal, state, and local agencies as directed by project managers
  • Ensure compliance with KLJ safety and quality standards
  • Utilize effective written and oral communication
  • Must be detail oriented and a team player


What You're Responsible For



  • Understanding federal, state, and local environmental regulatory policies
  • Independently conducting fieldwork, onsite documentation, and draft reports
  • Accurately completing and documenting environmental activities and incorporating pertinent information into reports or permits
  • Understanding and following scope of services, project schedules and budgets
  • Conducting and leading the completion of field assessments, investigations, and remediation activities.
  • Collecting, evaluating, and interpreting environmental data


What You'll Need



  • Four-year degree in geology or an environmental-related field. Previous experience may be considered in lieu of a four-year degree
  • Previous environmental field work experience preferred
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to operate motorized vehicles
  • Must have strong organizational and communication skills. This position will require someone with the ability to direct construction crews on location
  • Spanish speaking is a positive, but not a requirement for the position
  • Willingness to travel on occasions and work flexible hours as needed


Preferences:



  • Previous experience using GPS units and GIS software
  • Familiar with field data and sample collection methods
  • Previous experience in soil sampling and assessments, as well as surface and groundwater sampling.
  • Knowledge and experience with Texas Railroad Commission (TRRC), Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), New Mexico Oil Conservation Division (NMOCD), and New Mexico Environmental Department (NMED) regulations.
  • 40 Hour OSHA HAZWOPER

  • Work outdoors during all seasons
  • Ability to utilize a hand auger when required
  • Frequently lift and carry field equipment up to 25 pounds
  • Be able to walk on uneven terrain
  • Talk or hear and communicate clearly

Factors that may be used to determine actual salary include education (or applicable experience), training, job location, competencies relevant to the role, and internal equity.
