Description
The department of Facilities Management at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Campus Custodian at the Health Sciences Center. About the Opportunity: Under the Direction of the Manager, Supervisor or Lead this position will perform general cleaning of assigned areas at the Health Sciences Campus Facilities. Work will be performed within established safety guidelines and procedures. We strongly believe in work-life balance and keeping time for things we love outside our work. What You'll Do
- Cleans public area and furnishings; sweeps, mops, scrubs, disinfects, waxes, and polishes floors, hallways, stairs, elevators, and related fixtures.
- Utilizes brooms, mops, rags, brushes, and powered scrubbing, buffing, and waxing machines.
- Cleans and disinfects bathroom walls, floors, fixtures, stalls, mirrors, lavatories, commodes, and other plumbing facilities.
- Replenishes bathroom supplies including toilet tissue, towels, and soap.
- Vacuums and shampoos carpets, rugs, and upholstery using commercial vacuum cleaners and shampooers.
- Dusts and polishes furniture, desks, tabletops, file cabinets, bookcases, and related woodwork.
- Empties and cleans waste receptacles and recycle bins. Transports trash and waste to disposal areas.
- Cleans area around disposal sites.
- Wash and clean walls, ceilings, doors, windows, radiators, and ventilators.
- Mixes, dilutes, and uses commercial strength disinfectants, germicidal detergents, and other stringent cleaning solutions following established safety procedures. Calculates area to determine amounts of cleaning solutions required.
- Moves, sets up, rearranges, and dismantles desks, tables, chairs, displays and other related equipment using dolly, hand cart, or physically lifting objects. Mandatory overtime may required as assigned.
- Incumbent will be responsible for timely data entry related to accomplishments and progress as well as leave request, tracking personal information, reviewing personal leave balances and maintaining positive leave balances.
- The incumbent is responsible for overall accuracy and adhering to University Policies related to leave request approvals, documentation up to and including proper use of university equipment and adhering to University Computer Policies regarding security and proper use.
Pay Grade:7 Hours: 3p - 11pm
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Zero to six (0-6) months of directly related work experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to operate powered custodial equipment.
- Ability to bend, stoop and carry items as necessary.
- Ability to learn how to apply custodial products (cleaners, surface finishes, and disinfectants).
- Ability to read and write and follow safety instructions.
- Ability to maintain proper attendance levels and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work overtime as required
- Ability to manage time and resources effectively
- Ability to operate a computer and accurately enter information.
- Ability to function in highly stressful situations.
- Excellent communication skills, ability to perform work in a professional capacity, technical language as well as in simple, everyday terminology utilizing both written and oral communications.
- Self-motivated/ability to function with minimal supervision/direction and lead by example.
- Ability to work in varying temperature environments.
- Ability to crawl and climb heights over 10 feet.
- Ability to lift materials over 50 lbs.
- Ability to work mandatory overtime and respond during off hours as needed.
- Ability to work safely around moving equipment, heights and uneven surfaces.
