Scope of Position:

The purpose of the Development Coordinator is to facilitate interdepartmental teamwork and reports to the Executive Director of Development (EOD) of the Cascade Division of The Salvation Army. At the request of the EOD, the Development Coordinator will interact between Major Gifts, Donor Management, Planned Giving, and Foundations, providing reporting of objectives and measurable results.

Education and Work Experience:



  • High School or GED required. Some college preferred.
  • Minimum work experience of 3-5 years administrative support to leadership position(s).
  • Background or related education in a nonprofit development environment.
  • Experience with Word for Windows, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and other business-related applications. Database experience preferred.

  • Excellent and professional communication skills.
  • Basic aptitude and experience with personal computers and databases.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Must have a high level of integrity and ability to handle sensitive and private information.
  • Demonstrate ability to prioritize and multitask.
  • Team-minded person who can work independently and make decisions regarding planning, organizing, and scheduling.
  • Research ability including familiarity with internet, directories, and other non-traditional information gathering methods.
  • Ability to operate office machines including PC, printer, monitor, fax, copier, telephone, email, mail machine, etc.
  • Able to work with multiple deadlines and competing priorities.
  • Attention to detail.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Stock Donations / THQ Stock Liaison - Cascade Division.
  • White Mail - Divisional Headquarters Checks/Cash Receipts Processor:


- Receives checks/cash on a daily basis.

- Prepares, copies, codes, and creates Donor Receipt Logs.

- Scans Donor Receipt Logs and checks to Deluxe.



  • Major Gifts Fundraising Coordinator:


- Preparing and mailing.

- Receipting donors.

- Receipting.



  • Sustainer/Donor Liaison:


- Updating donor records.

- Maintaining recurring gifts.

- Issuing donation receipts.

- Addressing donor concerns.

- Contacting donors regarding donation issues.



  • Assists Director of Direct Mail with database information.
  • Operates as key point of contact for Major Donors in The Salvation Army on behalf of the Donor Relations Director.
  • Liaises between Development Team members.
  • Supports department engagement by coordinating meetings, team events, and workplace celebrations.
  • Tracks annual programs and presents funding opportunities and needs to Directors.
  • Generates and maintains financial development database.
  • Research local business publications and websites for "family" donors.
  • Interfaces with Salvation Army staff through telephone, email, and in-person communication.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information.


Physical Conditions:

Essential duties require the ability to sit for long periods of time, push, pull, lift and carry up to 10 pounds for short distances, have sense of touch, reach, grasp with hands and fingers, hear, identify colors, have close vision, finger dexterity, speak, and read.

Environmental Conditions:

Works on many projects at once in an open office environment with interruptions and noise from ringing telephones, printers, copiers, and walk-in traffic.

Miscellaneous:

Time off will not ordinarily be available between November 1 and December 25.
