Shift: Full-Time | 2nd Shift | Monday-Friday, 12:00 PM - 8:30 PM + Every Other Weekend

10% Shift Differential

Work Setting: Onsite | Hospital


Job Summary

We are seeking a Phlebotomist I to join the laboratory team at Mobile Infirmary. This position is ideal for candidates with recent phlebotomy experience who are comfortable working in a fast-paced hospital environment. The selected candidate will perform blood collections on patients ranging from pediatric to geriatric populations, including hard-stick patients, while maintaining high standards of patient care, specimen integrity, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Perform venipuncture using straight and butterfly needles.

Collect blood specimens from pediatric, adult, geriatric, and difficult-stick patients.

Verify physician orders and accurately match specimens with requisitions.

Label, centrifuge, process, split, freeze, and prepare specimens for transport.

Ensure proper specimen handling and storage according to testing requirements.

Explain specimen collection procedures to patients in a professional and courteous manner.

Update patient demographic and collection information accurately.

Maintain specimen integrity by following established laboratory protocols.

Perform equipment maintenance, decontamination, and record maintenance logs.

Package and transport specimens following established guidelines.

Comply with OSHA, DEP, HIPAA, and all laboratory safety standards.

Respond to laboratory-related phone inquiries as needed.

Participate in departmental training and quality improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED.

Minimum 6 months of recent phlebotomy experience performing venipunctures in a hospital or high-volume laboratory.

Experience drawing blood from pediatric through geriatric patients.

Experience working with hard-stick patients.

Proficiency using both straight needles and butterfly needles.

Comfortable walking throughout the hospital to perform patient collections.

Basic computer and Microsoft Office skills.

Strong attention to detail and specimen handling accuracy.

Excellent communication and patient interaction skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous inpatient hospital phlebotomy experience.

Experience with specimen processing and centrifuging.

Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS).

Experience handling high daily patient volumes.

Work Environment

Hospital-based inpatient setting.

Frequent walking between patient rooms.

Exposure to blood and other biological specimens.

PPE required in accordance with safety protocols.

Compliance Requirements

Negative THC drug screen required.

Flu vaccination required.

COVID-19 vaccination not required.
