Job Title: Phlebotomist I

Location: 2275 Commercial St., Astoria, OR

Duration: 3 Months (Contract to Possible Hire)

Schedule: Monday - Thursday | 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM (1st Shift)

Summary:

The primary responsibility of the Phlebotomist I is to perform blood collection, specimen processing, and provide exceptional patient care while adhering to established laboratory procedures, safety standards, and compliance requirements. This position is based in an In-Office Phlebotomy (IOP) setting, working alongside one other phlebotomist and primarily serving geriatric patients with occasional pediatric collections.


Position Responsibilities:


  • Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collections using proper collection techniques.



  • Collect blood specimens from primarily geriatric patients, with occasional pediatric patients.



  • Process specimens, including labeling, centrifuging, packaging, and preparing samples for transport.



  • Verify laboratory requisition forms and ensure accurate specimen identification.



  • Maintain proper specimen storage according to laboratory guidelines.



  • Accurately document patient information and collection details in the laboratory system.



  • Follow OSHA guidelines and all laboratory safety and compliance procedures.



  • Provide excellent customer service while explaining collection procedures and ensuring patient comfort.



  • Collaborate with the onsite phlebotomy team to ensure efficient daily workflow.



  • Perform other related duties as assigned.




Minimum Qualifications:


  • High School Diploma or GED.



  • Recent phlebotomy experience.



  • Experience performing venipuncture on geriatric patients.



  • Comfortable working with occasional pediatric patients.



  • Specimen processing experience.



  • Basic computer skills.



  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and compliance.



  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.




Preferred Qualifications:


  • Previous experience working in an IOP (In-Office Phlebotomy) setting.



  • Pediatric blood draw experience.



  • Knowledge of laboratory specimen handling and processing procedures.



  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a small team.




Additional Details:


  • Contract assignment through September 15, 2026, with the potential for extension and conversion to a full-time Labcorp employee.



  • Position is a backfill for an employee on leave.



  • Candidate will work onsite with one additional phlebotomist.



  • Negative THC drug screen is required.



  • Flu and COVID-19 vaccinations are not required.



  • Starting pay upon conversion will be determined based on the candidate's experience by the Labcorp Talent Acquisition team.




Work Environment:


  • In-Office Phlebotomy (IOP)



  • Onsite laboratory setting in Astoria, OR.



  • Team environment with one additional phlebotomist.



  • Patient population consists primarily of geriatric patients with occasional pediatric collections.
