The Android Engineer II role is responsible for developing and enhancing the FOX News Android applications. As an individual contributor, you will design, build, and maintain high-quality applications that power our mobile and CTV experience using modern engineering practices, including agentic AI workflows. You'll collaborate closely with product managers, designers, backend engineers, and fellow Android developers to deliver scalable, reliable, and engaging experiences for millions of users.

In this role, you'll take ownership of features from design through implementation, contribute to technical discussions, and help improve the quality, performance, and reliability of our applications. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to deepen their technical expertise while helping the team deliver high-quality features at lightning speed.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain native Android applications using Kotlin and modern Android development practices.

  • Collaborate with Product, Design, QA, and Backend Engineering teams to deliver high-quality mobile features.

  • Build clean, maintainable, and reusable code following established architecture and coding standards.

  • Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery and improve code quality, and contribute ideas for improving team workflows through automation.

  • Participate in technical design discussions and contribute ideas that improve application architecture and user experience.

  • Write unit and integration tests to ensure application quality and reliability.

  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production issues while continuously improving application stability and performance.

  • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to teammates.

  • Optimize application performance, responsiveness, and memory usage across a variety of Android devices.

  • Stay current with Android platform updates and emerging mobile technologies to help improve development practices.

  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and support continuous delivery of mobile applications.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • 2+ years of professional experience developing native Android applications.

  • Strong proficiency in Kotlin and experience with the Android SDK.

  • Experience building applications using Jetpack libraries and modern Android architecture patterns such as MVVM or Clean Architecture.

  • Experience with Jetpack Compose and/or traditional Android Views.

  • Familiarity with Kotlin Coroutines, Flow, and asynchronous programming.

  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code, or similar) to support software development and improve engineering productivity.

  • Experience integrating RESTful APIs and working with JSON data.

  • Knowledge of Git version control and Agile development methodologies.

  • Experience writing unit and UI tests.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a cross-functional team.

  • Regular, on-site attendance at the workplace a minimum of 3 days per week is an essential function of the position. Selected candidate must be able to reliably meet this requirement.

NICE TO HAVE, BUT NOT A DEALBREAKER

  • Experience building streaming, media, or video applications.

  • Familiarity with ExoPlayer and video playback technologies.

  • Experience with dependency injection frameworks such as Hilt or Dagger.

  • Familiarity with Firebase, Crashlytics, or mobile analytics platforms.

  • Experience supporting Android TV or other connected devices.

  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and automated mobile deployment workflows.

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $114,000.00-132,000.00 annually. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
