What to Expect

Tesla is looking for an experienced Sr. Civil Engineer to join our dynamic team of AEC professionals at the Fremont Factory. This role will engage with multiple diverse teams daily to support manufacturing operations by designing, permitting, and building capital projects. Additional responsibilities include supporting facility engineering with assessment and analysis of existing site utilities, regulatory compliance, and other civil engineering needs.


What You'll Do
  • Make technical assumptions, think independently to complete assigned work, and draw conclusions based on engineering judgement
  • Gather existing conditions information and produce base drawings in Civil 3D for Civil Engineering Design
  • Prepare design drawings, plans, profiles, sections, and details including initial model and sheet set up (modeling and design deliverables in AutoCAD Civil 3D)
  • Coordinate civil CAD modeling with multidiscipline project teams utilizing Revit and other modeling programs, including Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, and Process Piping/Plumbing
  • Coordinate design input and markups from civil engineering team
  • Manage site surveys, ALTA's and title reports. Utilize and improve civil design standards and details
  • Present 30% 60% 90% IFP model reviews to stakeholders and multi-discipline teams
  • Provide construction administration support, including responding to RFIs (Requests for Information), reviewing contractor submittals, and conducting field observations to ensure construction aligns with design intent
  • Lead or support the acquisition of site development, grading, and building permits by coordinating directly with local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs)
  • Work with the BIM/CAD support team to achieve consistent results and incorporate new design into the existing facility models

What You'll Bring
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in Civil engineering/Site Development, with a proven track record of managing medium to large-scale projects
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent experience and a Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of California
  • Advance experience in the use of AutoCAD Civil3D as well as hydrology/stormwater management software for civil design
  • Knowledge of construction materials and construction details and techniques
  • Knowledge of technical responsibilities of other disciplines associated with Facilities Design
  • Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally
  • Ability to resolve design issues and clear communication with coworkers, other engineering disciplines, construction, and the contractors
  • Flexibility to support critical project milestones and facility operations outside of standard business hours as needed
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to rapidly changing project requirements and timelines
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight; prioritize and manage multiple assignments

    Expected Compensation
    $128,000 - $192,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
