What to Expect

The Off-Board Charging team is seeking a hardware integration engineer with4+ years of industry experience specializing in EVSE hardware integration from prototype through production. This role will primarily focus on integrating, debugging, and validating power electronics and high- and low-voltage hardware-including custom PCBs, harnesses, grid-connected stages, and EVSE-vehicle communication interfaces-for next-generation charging products.

You will serve as a technical anchor for EVSE hardware integration, driving cross-functional decision-making that bridges hardware, firmware, and controls. The role demands hands-on judgment to translate complex system interactions into clear integration and validation plans. You will define validation strategies, lead hardware bring-up, conduct system testing on the bench and in grid-connected environments, and support firmware integration (~30% of work) by reading and debugging C++ during system validation. You will partner with electrical, firmware, mechanical, test, manufacturing, and quality teams to bring designs from first bring-up through production ramp.

What You'll Do
  • Integrate, test, and validate EVSE hardware and firmware across prototype, pilot, and production phases, with focus on power electronics, HV/LV subsystems, and EVSE-vehicle communications
  • Debug and triage integration issues on custom PCBs, harnesses, interconnects, and power stages; identify root cause and help implement and validate fixes with design and firmware owners
  • Develop and execute integration and validation test plans-including grid-connected, power quality, and signal-quality characterization using scopes, power analyzers, and DAQ-and align test milestones to program timelines
  • Lead cross-functional integration discussions with electrical, firmware, controls, mechanical, test, reliability, manufacturing, and supplier teams
  • Support early prototype development to de-risk new hardware, interconnect, and EVSE-vehicle communication designs before pilot and production builds
  • Read, comprehend, and debug C++ as needed to support system testing and firmware/controls integration during development cycles
  • Work with manufacturing and test teams to achieve production ramp with robust integration processes and high first-pass yield

What You'll Bring
  • Strong foundation in hardware fundamentals with ability to bridge electrical schematics, harness design, and firmware behavior during integration and debug
  • 4+yearshands-on hardware integration and validation experience in product development (EV, energy, automotive, or industrial)
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and use lab equipment (oscilloscopes, DMMs, power analyzers, electronic loads, DAQ) for bring-up and troubleshooting
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and debug C++ for system test and validation (firmware development not required)
  • Strong knowledge of one or more areas among power electronics, high-voltage systems, low-voltage embedded hardware, vehicle communication networks (e.g., CAN, Ethernet), custom PCB bring-up, and harness/interconnect debug; ability to integrate across these domains is paramount
  • Ability to design test scripts or automation (Python preferred) to improve bring-up and validation efficiency
  • High-voltage system integration or grid-connected testing experience, preferred
  • EVSE, charger, or grid code/compliance testing experience, preferred
  • Power electronics background (converter topologies, magnetics, protection), preferred
  • Bias toward systematic problem-solving, root-cause analysis, and explicit risk-based decision making; exceptional communication skills and ability to lead through influence
