Job Summary

The TRIO Upward Bound (UB) Program Coordinator (Student Services Analyst) collaborates with the TRIO Project Director, serving as the primary lead responsible for planning, implementing, and coordinating the UB program. The Program Coordinator provides full support and collaboration to carry out these efforts by serving as the primary point of contact for high school participants. The UB Program supports students who are first-generation, low-income, or otherwise underrepresented in higher education. The UB Coordinator will serve as the primary case manager for engaging students in College Readiness, Academic Preparation, and Enrichment and Cultural Activities. This position requires high motivation, creativity, and the ability to holistically support students in overcoming barriers to postsecondary access.

Essential Functions

30% - Student Support
  • Advises, coaches, and tracks Upward Bound participants' academic, career, and personal development.
  • Works with students to develop individualized success plans, monitors progress, and maintains longitudinal records for each participant.
  • Provides ongoing advising and case management to students and families to ensure persistence through high school graduation and college enrollment.
  • Identifies referral resources and connects students to appropriate academic, personal, and social support services.
  • Coordinates tutoring, mentoring, and college readiness support aligned with program objectives.

30% - Recruitment, Outreach & Program Implementation
  • Assists with the identification, recruitment, and selection of eligible high school students for Upward Bound participation.
  • Coordinates and supports information sessions, orientations, workshops, and parent engagement activities (e.g., Parent Institute).
  • Plans and implements campus visits, cultural enrichment events, volunteer activities, and leadership development experiences for UB participants.
  • Builds and maintains partnerships with high school administrators, teachers, counselors, and families to promote program goals and student participation.
  • Assists with the planning and delivery of summer programming and academic-year initiatives consistent with TRIO objectives and GateWay's Strategic Plan.
  • Plan, organize, and implement a 6-week summer bridge program in collaboration with the Project Director.

30% - Program Coordination & Case Management
  • Provides office coordination and administrative support for all Upward Bound program activities.
  • Maintains program records, participant files, reports, and data systems in alignment with MCCCD and federal requirements.
  • Organizes program purchasing, student service contracts, and event logistics with Program Director (PD) approval.
  • Ensures compliance with GWCC and MCCCD purchasing and travel policies, including travel authorizations, vendor quotes, and reconciliations.
  • Plans and coordinates student and staff travel for college visits, cultural experiences, and the summer residential program.
  • Maintains an accurate inventory of program supplies and materials.
  • Assists with preparation of program reports and documentation for annual and ongoing evaluations.
  • Schedules student appointments and coordinates with college and high school staff for advising, tutoring, and mentoring sessions.
  • Maintains accurate data tracking in compliance with Department of Education and institutional reporting requirements.

10% - Other Duties as Assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two (2) years of student services or college teaching experience, or experience coordinating, administering, planning, or evaluating programs.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Desired Qualifications

A. Master's degree in education, counseling, student affairs, or related field.
B. Two (2) or more years of experience working with first-generation, low-income, or underrepresented college students.
C. One (1) or more years of recruitment experience.
D. Familiarity working with High School students and partners.
E. Two (2) or more years of experience coordinating, implementing, or evaluating student support programs.
F. One (1) or more years of program data inquiry and retention experience
G. One (1) year full-time relevant MCCCD experience during the previous two (2) years

Special Working Conditions
  • Will be required to travel or be assigned to all GateWay locations
  • Weekly travel to partner high schools and community sites.
  • May require some evenings or weekends for workshops, cultural trips, and summer programs
  • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
  • May be required to lift or carry up to #25 lbs
  • MCCCD does not sponsor individuals for any type of work visas
